Witnesses: Stolen Dealership Van Ran Red Lights to Evade Police During Chase

Three individuals were involved in the theft of a cargo van from a Lisle car dealership Wednesday morning. Patch readers provide accounts of the car chase that led police through Downers Grove.

Police are still looking for three suspects involved in the theft of a luxury cargo van that led Lisle police on a high-speed chase through parts of Lisle and Downers Grove Wednesday morning. Police say the suspects entered the lot at Bill Kay Chevrolet, 601 Ogden Ave., Lisle, as prospective buyers. Two of the individuals inspected a gold 2012 Chevrolet Express Van, when it is believed they obtained one of the van’s keys when they asked to start the vehicle. A third suspect got into the van and drove off when employees attempted to confront the driver. The car dealership is less than a quarter mile from Interstate 355. Stolen Lisle Dealership Van Leads to Car Chase

Lisle police pursued the vehicle through Downers Grove. Will County sheriff deputies found the van abandoned near Lemont Wednesday afternoon, but a search for the three suspects continues.

Suspects in the theft of a cargo van from a Lisle car dealership Wednesday morning are still at large, according to a Lisle Police Department news release. Bill Kay Chevrolet employees told the police that three individuals were on the lot around 10 a.m. as prospective buyers, when they obtained the key for a gold 2012 Chevrolet Express Van and drove off the lot, according to the release. The car is valued upwards of $59,000. Police said they were called to the dealership at 10:27 a.m. for a "suspicious incident," when they were notified that the van had been stolen. Employees told officers that two of the three individuals inspected the van and asked for the keys, and likely secured one without the salesperson's knowledge. When the …

I was passed by this van yesterday morning! I was westbound on 55th around Memorial Park when it sped by me and went into the eastbound lanes to pass cars that were in the left lane. I'm pretty sure it blew the stop light at Belmont, but it was long gone by the time I got there. Scared the bejesus out of me!   more ›
