Local Business Spotlight: Pathway Connections

Since 2012 Pathway Connections has been providing childcare to children in the Lisle area.

Name: Jan Peterson Company: Pathway Connections Title: Owner/Director Location: Lisle Founded: 2012 Pathway Connections Childcare Center was founded in August 2012 in Lisle, IL. The center was established with the mission to provide the highest quality care for children and families, by creating a safe and nurturing environment that celebrates each child's individuality, inspiring curiosity and imagination through a connection with all. We chose Lisle both because of the beauty of the community and because the opportunity presented itself! We knew we wanted to stay in the western suburbs, and, when we had the opportunity to aquire a nice sized building in Lisle at the intersection of Burlington and Yackley, we knew we had to act. And we're…

Obama's 'You Didn't Build That' Business Comments: Is He Wrong?

The president's small-business comments upset many people and gave Republican Mitt Romney a point of attack. But Barack Obama said the comments were taken out of context. What do you think? Take the Patch Poll.

President Barack Obama's recent comments about small business created a firestorm that could become a focus of the 2012 election — even as Obama and his supporters say his comments were taken out of context.  "Look, if you’ve been successful, you didn’t get there on your own," he said during a July 13 speech in Virginia. "If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help ... If you’ve got a business — you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen." Take the Patch poll below: Who plays the most significant role in creating jobs and economic growth? That's not the entire speech, which you can read on the independent FactCheck.org. According to that post, the comments were taken out of context: "There’s no question …

When It's Time to Stock Up for Thanksgiving, What are Your Favorite Stores?

If you're feeding a small army on Thanksgiving day, getting the right food at the right price is a big part of the job. Where do you go?

Somehow my wife always pulls it off: Thanksgiving is hands-down the best meal of the year—great food with family, without the stress of gift-giving. It's all about being together to share a great meal. Turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, vegetable casseroles, pies, ice cream—the hot dishes all come out hot and tasting great. Everybody who shows up leaves with leftovers and all that turkey keeps me sleepy for a week. But before the miracle of the meal comes the shopping. And there are many choices, not only the big supermarket chains, but smaller grocers and specialty shops with their own strengths. Who sells the best meat? The freshest veggies? The best deals for dessert? Maybe you've got a Thanksgiving recipe with a hard-to-find …

Thanks Tom. We shop a lot at Jewel because it's conveniently close. And I like the fact that after many years, I'm starting to get a general idea of what's located in which aisle.   more ›

Lisle Lanes Debuts Kingpin Grille On Friday

After a two-year vacancy, the bowling alley's operators will maintain the new eatery with a similar name to its predecessor.

A piece of Lisle Lanes sat dormant for two years, and now owners are taking it out of hibernation. Since its opening the bowling alley has usually leased its food service space, and over the years it's been known as the Country Cup or Kingpin Grill. When the Kingpin Grill vacated in 2009, manager David Camastro said they continued to serve menu items from nearby Barraco's Pizza. On Friday, however, owner Cesar Canonigo is reviving the dining and bar area as the Kingpin Grille—and if things go well, he said he may consider expanding operations to include three meals a day. This time food operations are being maintained by Canonigo, not a separate entity. The new menu, which will be available during the alley's operating hours, includes: 7- …

It’s confectionary heaven on a stick.  Resident Marissa Harper has developed the perfect albeit decadent bliss in the form of cake bites and cake pops.  The mixture of cake and frosting rolled into balls and dipped into candy coating has attracted an enthusiastic following based on taste and texture alone.  Add the fun shapes and colors that Harper has developed and the result is an exciting business venture that Harper is currently launching called MY Cake Bite Delights. Harper said that she first started creating cake bites and cake balls five years ago after having sampled one that a friend made.   She loved the flavor and consistency of her friend’s treat, but was unimpressed with the appearance of what was just a “blob of cake with …
