The family of Shaun Wild hopes to hold a memorial service in his honor at North Central College in the fall. This weekend the family will celebrate Shaun's life during a baseball game in Wisconsin.
A memorial service in honor of Naperville teacher Shaun Wild, who was stabbed to death in February in a downtown bar, won’t take place until fall at the earliest, his mother Jami Wild said earlier this week. Wild was living in Lisle at the time of his death. The Wild family had hoped to hold a memorial service at North Central College, where Shaun studied education, before the end of the school year, but Jami Wild said the family is still trying to cope with the great loss it has experienced. “We are all just really struggling,” Jami Wild said during a telephone interview Wednesday. “My kids are just trying to get through the semester. All of Shaun’s friends are struggling to get through the semester.” The family didn’t want to do …

Judge Kathryn E. Creswell has denied bond for Daniel Olaska, who is charged in last month's stabbing death of Naperville teacher Shaun Wild. Olaska's next hearing will be March 19.
Judge Kathryn E. Creswell has denied bond for Daniel Olaska, who is charged in the stabbing death of Naperville teacher Shaun Wild. Olaska appeared before the judge Friday morning after the prosecutor asked for either an increase or revocation of bond. Creswell said Olaska “poses a real and present threat to the community." Though he could be placed on house arrest and monitored with a GPS bracelet, she said that would not keep him from fleeing. “There are no conditions or combination of conditions that would reasonably secure the safety of the community,” Creswell said. “The court finds to deny bond.” A hearing was held Feb. 17 to determine if bond should be increased or revoked, but defense attorney Brian Telander had asked that the …

If we look inside ourselves, we can take something away from this senseless act.
This kind of thing happens on Patch all the time. Combine a hint of anonymity with some touchy topics and that thin veneer of civilization can drop faster than those congressional approval ratings. I’d even considered sponsoring a contest to see if any reader could actually come up with an epithet that hasn’t already been hurled my way, but I believe it’s all been said. In the end, I let it go because it’s something I’ve come to expect. But two complete strangers sitting together in a bar? That one baffles me. We’ve all heard the disturbing news reports detailing the circumstance surrounding the murder of 24-year-old Naperville second-grade teacher Shaun Wild at 1 a.m. on Feb. 4 at a Naperville night club. And the truly tragic irony is …
