A former Naperville North High School guidance counselor was formally sentenced Tuesday to 30 days of jail work release and 30 months of probation after pleading guilty last month to having a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old student, the Daily Herald reports. The Naperville North Girls Socer team won the IHSA Class 3A Soccer Championship with seconds remaining in the fourth overtime period Saturday night. The Huskies took on St. Charles (North) North Stars at North Central College's Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium. The game went into four overtime periods before the Huskies scored a goal with 42 seconds remaining in the period. Christa Szalach, #14, scored the winning goal. Students and staff from Naperville North High School create a "lip dub" Youtube video, which combines lip synching, audio dubbing and dancing.
Naperville North High School students and staff collaborated to show off their school pride and have a little fun in this "lip dub" music video. The video has garnered more than 80,000 views, according to Naperville Sun.

Sixteen area high schools, including Naperville North, are ranked in U.S. News & World Report’s evaluation of nearly 22,000 American public high schools. The rankings were released as part of the Best High School rankings, now in its fourth edition. The methodology to produce the rankings included test scores, state assessments and college-level coursework, such as Advanced Placement (AP) or International Baccalaureate (IB) programs, both of which include college-level courses. U.S. News & World explained its methodology here. Schools were awarded gold, silver, or bronze medals based on state proficiency standards, how well they prepare students for college, and other factors. The team made it all the way to the semifinals round at regional competition this year, according to a release from Culloton Strategies. They also received the admirable Gracious Professionalism Award. School board looks to strengthen security and increase accessibility with new video camera monitoring software at Naperville North and Naperville Central.
In an effort to continue creating a safe environment for students and staff, Naperville School District 203 officials will have access to school video surveillance at their fingertips – literally. If the budget is approved this July, District 203 will be spending a total of $180,000 to install LexRay mobile security software on security cameras at Naperville North High School. Cameras will also be installed at Naperville Central High School. LexRay is a security camera monitoring system, which allows users to access real time video footage with little delay through a secure account on their mobile device. Two meetings will be held next week to help educate residents, parents and students, about the heroin problem in Naperville.
Naperville is not the only community struggling with a heroin problem; it is an issue in communities around the Chicago area and across the country, according to one police department official. The Naperville Police Department has said there is a growing heroin problem here that needs to be addressed. In addition to a handful of heroin overdoses in the past year, police recently arrested a Naperville teen for alleged unlawful delivery of a controlled substance. Police know that the best way to try and curb the heroin problem in town is to have the support, understanding and cooperation of residents in the community. I live down the street and see all kinds of neighbor children in and out of their house and playing in their yard when I drive by. Now that he's a registered sex offender, is he allowed to have neighborhood children in his yard or home ? Even if other adults are present in the home ? I sure hope not.
