Lisle Mother Says She Almost Lost Son to Heroin, Fights for More Community Drug Awareness

Those on all sides of the issue believe that active involvement from parents and community members is the best weapon to offer young people against substance abuse.

One day last fall, the mother of a former student at Lisle Senior High School picked up the phone to learn some of the worst news a mother could hear. The call was one of her son's friends, warning, "You gotta do something, ‘cause he’s gonna end up dead." At first she believed her son's friend was exaggerating—she had recently learned her son was abusing alcohol and marijuana. She enrolled him in counseling, and believed he was improving. But the friend's next words filled her with dread, "No he's into heroin."   A conversation about substance abuse spreads through the western suburbs After a 17-year-old Neuqua Valley student was charged with unlawful delivery of a controlled substance in Naperville in early February, hundreds of …

Proposed Single Family Development Would 'Reinforce' Lisle's Existing Home Values

Representatives with K. Hovnanian Homes presented information on pricing, styles, and layout of Arbor Trails, a proposed 163-home development on Maple Avenue. The public hearing process is expected to begin next month.

National home building company K. Hovnanian Homes hopes to turn the $600 in tax revenue that DuPage County receives each year on the Meijer property into $1.5 million, ideally. Hundreds Turn Out As District 203 Board Discusses Redistricting

The District 203 Board of Education approved the Enrollment Capacity Study committee's recommendation to take more time to develop a proper solution to the over- and under-crowding issues.

More than 500 parents and concerned community members filled the Naperville Central High School auditorium Monday night as Naperville School District 203 Superintendent Mark Mitrovich and the district’s Enrollment Capacity Study committee asked the board of education for more time to make decisions on enrollment and school redistricting. The district had hired RSP Consultants to collect information about the district’s demographics, which showed a downward trend in enrollment over the next five years. After members of the 203 community became concerned that the district was moving too fast and raised concerns earlier this month, the district took a step back.  During the school board’s meeting Monday the following recommendations were …
