Get your pencils and scorecards ready! Here's Jeff's regional play-by-play of the Illinois March primary results.
Given the primary results, my favorite Star Trek character would likely raise an eyebrow and issue his famous single word exclamation, “Fascinating!” Aside from the abysmal voter turnout (we’ll talk about that later), despite all that regular Friday post-Patch column's conservative-versus-liberal-commentary rancor, it turns out that Illinois is actually a moderate state after all. Having previously swept the southern and plains states, uber-conservative Rick Santorum got kicked in the electoral you-know-whats by losing to Mitt Romney by 12 points. Even if Newt had followed his own advice and pulled out of the primary, Santorum still would’ve come in second. Though that race is far from over—I don’t see Santorum hoisting the white flag …

Foster, who served the 14th District from 2008 to 2010, won the nomination in the newly-drawn 11th by a significant margin, besting attorney Juan Thomas and Orland Fire District President Jim Hickey. Unofficial totals show Foster with 11,990 votes across the district, more than twice the number pulled in by Thomas, his closest competitor. Foster joined the DuPage County Democrats at an election night party at Village Links in Glen Ellyn on Tuesday night. Taking the podium around 9 p.m., he declared victory, and set his sights on his November battle against 13th District Rep. …

Ms. McConnaughay was (and still is) so unpopular in Kane County that Dillard, who came in first or second everywhere else, finished a distant third out here. Had he avoided this …   more ›
