2013 Election: Lisle Village, School, Park, Library and Township Races

Mayor Joe Broda is up for reelection in just one of more than a dozen races for open seats on local governing boards in the April 9 election. Learn more about the people who filed to run for positions as elected officials in Lisle.

The filing period for municipal elections ended Dec. 26 for the April 9 election. Candy Cane Hunt for Kids Saturday in Lisle

Prizes will be given to those who find the special candy canes and a special visitor may stop by with other special treats.

Celebrate the holiday season with the Lisle Park District's candy cane hunt at 10 a.m. Saturday, at Community Park in Lisle. Kids should dress warm and bring a basket or sack for the goodies they collect. Children will hunt for candy canes by age groups (2 and under, 3-5, 6-10) in different areas of the park surrounding the Community Center. Prizes will be given to those who find the special candy canes and a special visitor may stop by with other special treats. Participants should register by Friday. The fee is $5 for residents and $8 for nonresidents. Click here for more information.

Park District Announces Holiday Hours

Facilities will be closed on Thanksgiving Day.

The Lisle Park District's Recreation Center, Senior Center, and Administrative offices will be closed Thursday through Sunday for the Thanksgiving holiday. Regular hours will resume on Monday. Community Park Fitness Center, 1825 Short St., will be closed Thursday. Regular hours will resume on Friday.

Trail of Terror Tonight at the Park District

This is an outdoor, guided event on foot.

The Lisle Park District's annual Trail of Terror event will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. tonight, at Lisle Community Park, 1825 Short St. For $7, attendees walk a spooky trail lined with horror film icons. Group rate admissions are available on-site for groups of 10 or more. Parental discretion is advised as some material may not be suitable for very young children. Parking is located in the south end of the Sea Lion Aquatic Park parking lot. For more information, click here.

Park District's Monster Madness Event is Tonight at the Rec Center

The family-friendly event is for those ages 10 and under and will include games, ghouls, animals and goodies.

The Lisle Park District will host the Monster Madness Fall Fun Fair from 6 to 8:30 p.m. tonight, at the Recreation Center, 1925 Ohio St., Lisle. The family-friendly event is for those ages 10 and under and will include friendly games, ghouls, animals and goodies. Attendees can win Halloween prizes at the Carnival, visit the pumpkin patch and petting zoo, and take a pony ride or walk through the straw maze designed especially for children and the young at heart. The fee is $10 for a punch card with 25 punches.

Entries for Park District Photo Contest Due Oct. 1

Winners will be announced by Dec. 1.

The Lisle Park District is seeking submissions for the 2012 Lisle Parks Photo Contest. Individuals may submit any number of photos—in color or black and white—of the park district's grounds and facilities. Photos will be accepted until Monday, Oct. 1. Photos must be accompanied by a location or event where the photo was taken, date photo was taken, photographer’s age, name, address, phone number and e-mail. If there are enough submissions, photos will be judged by age group. Winners will be announced by Dec. 1. All photos submitted become the property of the Lisle Park District. Keep Swimming Before It's Time to Get Out of the Pool

Lisle's Sea Lion Aquatic Park posts its final hours before closing on Labor Day.

Here are the final hours for the season at Sea Lion Aquatic Park, 1825 Short St.:  Through Friday, Aug. 31 Saturday, Sept. 1 and Sunday, Sept. 2 Monday, Sept. 5 For the most part, Lisle's weather forecast, according to the Weather Channel, will provide good swimming weather for the aquatic park's last weekend. Tempertures today, Thurday and tomorrow, Friday are expected to reach in the lower 90s with sunny skies. Scattered storms are in the forescast for Saturday and Sunday, with a 30 percent chance of rain and temperatures in the low 80s. Monday, closing day, may be mostly cloudy with 10 percent chance of rain and a high temperature of 87. For daily weather/closing information, call the aquatic park at 630-964-3410 (option 2, 2, 2).

Lisle Park District Kicks Off Movies in the Park After Dark

Are you a fan of outdoor movies?  The Lisle Park District kicks off its Movies in the Park After Dark series at Community Park Tuesday evening. Every other week, bring the family and a blanket or lawn chairs, and introduce your kids to some truly classy family favorites, including "The Goonies" and "Ghostbusters." [Editor's note: they're also showing "Raiders of the Lost Ark," which is arguably tied with "The Last Crusade" as the best Indiana Jones film ever.] Swing by the Community Park band shell around dusk tonight to catch "Remember the Titans," inspired by the real life story of the T.C.
