U.S. Rep. Peter Roskam (R-IL) won re-election in Illinois' 6th Congressional District Tuesday over Leslie Coolidge after getting 30,864 more votes than the his challenger, with all precincts reporting. Roskam said he plans to be a part of turning the economy around, and his work on the House Ways and Means Committee will be a platform to do so. "Our tax code is a disaster, and most Americans recognize that it’s a disaster," he said Tuesday at Arrowhead Golf Club in Wheaton. "And most Americans are very open to trying to reform the code." He said the House will begin to put together a "very substantive" tax reform effort focused on making the U.S. tax code the most competitive in the world. "If we do that we’ll be in a much better footing …

Please note in subject lines the message is a Letter to the Editor. The choice is ours in the newly formed 6th Congressional District. The Republican incumbent, Peter Roskam, always votes the party line. Leslie Coolidge, the Democratic challenger, has moderate views and is not afraid to express what she sees as great potential for this country. Peter Roskam voted to cut hundreds of jobs at Fermilab in our area, and voted for tax breaks for companies that ship jobs overseas. Leslie Coolidge supports targeted incentives and job skill training that will …

The invitation was the group's second attempt to host such a debate, after Rep. Roskam was unable to attend the Oct. 4 event. Candidate Leslie Coolidge (D-Barrington) previously accepted the Oct. 4 and Oct. 11 invitations. Patch covers more than a dozen towns in the 6th District, including Algonquin-Lake in the Hills, Barrington, Crystal Lake-Cary, Darien…

Wheaton Patch accepts and publishes letters to the editor emailed to Local Editor Charlotte Eriksen at Charlotte@patch.com, or sent as a message through the Wheaton Patch Facebook page. Please note in subject lines the message is a Letter to the Editor. Letter to the Editor, Leslie Coolidge, the Democratic candidate for Congress, is running against Peter Roskam, one of the truly gifted Republican candidates; he’s gifted with Republican money, with a social focus so narrow one could call it laser-like, with insight into women’s lives that allows him to justify controlling women’s choices, and with a sense of political responsibility that allows him to focus solely on attacking Obama to the exclusion (and detriment) of constituent needs. …

Recently I had an enlightening visit with Leslie Coolidge, our Democratic Congressional candidate in the 6th District. Leslie spelled out her goals for serving in Congress. She explained how she would propose to cut Medicare costs and improve the image of the U.S. in the world. Her view is that the U.S. is still the only superpower, and with focused leadership, there is no reason we cannot have a very bright future. Investing in our infrastructure is very important to Leslie. A green economy can provide new jobs…

Two Democrats and an independent seek support in the 6th Congressional District before the March 20 primary.
With 12 days before the March 20 primary, Democratic Congressional candidates Leslie Coolidge and Geoffrey Petzel sought support from potential voters in Glen Ellyn during a League of Women Voters sponsored forum Thursday night. Coolidge and Petzel, along with Khizar Jafri, a 25-year-old from Wheaton who is running as an indepenent, fielded questions from the audience ranging from health care, taxes to term limits and bringing unity to a highly partisan House. Each candidate said they supported President Barack Obama’s health care reforms passed by Congress in 2010, although each recognized flaws in the bill. Petzel, who supports the universal health care plan, got into the race after suffering a heart attack after dropping his health …
