AUDIO: Rep. Jeanne Ives: Gays Trying to 'Weasel Their Way Into Acceptability'

Wheaton Republican Jeanne Ives' comments about gay couples "weasel[ing] their way into acceptability" have made a splash as the House prepares to vote on a same-sex marriage bill.

UPDATED, 5:55 p.m.: Rep Ives has issued a further clarification in a Patch Local Voices submission. Recent comments by 42nd District Rep. Jeanne Ives (R-Wheaton), made on a Catholic Conference of Illinois (CCI) radio show in February, that same-sex marriages are "completely disordered" and that gays are "trying to weasel their way into acceptability" have been attacked by same-sex marriage proponents, the Huffington Post and Daily Herald report. "They're trying to redefine society," she told the station. "They're trying to weasel their way into acceptability so that they can then start to push their agenda down into the schools, because this gives them some sort of legitimacy... Newly inaugurated State Representative Jeanne Ives (R—District 42) last week announced the opening of the district office she shares with Senator Michael Connelly (R—District 21) in Wheaton. Connelly and Ives will host an open house at their office at 1725 S. Naperville Rd. 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26. “I look forward to meeting as many of my constituents as possible in person,” Ives said in a statement. “I am humbled by and grateful for their belief in my ability to advocate for them in the General Assembly. Jeanne Ives Elected to 42nd State Representative District

Jeanne Ives wins the 2012 General Election in Illinois' 42nd State Representative District.

Patch editor Charlotte Eriksen contributed to this report Republican Jeanne Ives captured the 42nd State Representative District seat and defeated Democrat William Adams on Tuesday.  Adams won a projected 19,298 votes to Ives' 31,057 votes. Ives, a Wheaton City Councilwoman, said in an October candidate forum she promises to protect taxpayers from corruption that runs "rampant" in Springfield. Ives said she plans to take her experience working on Wheaton City Council down to Springfield.  "[I bring] a vast understanding of how the State impacts not only buisness owners, but municipalities and their ability to actually make the decisions that they want to at the local level." Naperville Chamber Endorses Jeanne Ives for State Representative

Naperville Area Chamber endorses Jeanne Ives for state representatives in the 42nd District.
