Wheaton Republican Jeanne Ives' comments about gay couples "weasel[ing] their way into acceptability" have made a splash as the House prepares to vote on a same-sex marriage bill.
UPDATED, 5:55 p.m.: Rep Ives has issued a further clarification in a Patch Local Voices submission. Recent comments by 42nd District Rep. Jeanne Ives (R-Wheaton), made on a Catholic Conference of Illinois (CCI) radio show in February, that same-sex marriages are "completely disordered" and that gays are "trying to weasel their way into acceptability" have been attacked by same-sex marriage proponents, the Huffington Post and Daily Herald report. Newly inaugurated State Representative Jeanne Ives (R—District 42) last week announced the opening of the district office she shares with Senator Michael Connelly (R—District 21) in Wheaton. Connelly and Ives will host an open house at their office at 1725 S. Jeanne Ives wins the 2012 General Election in Illinois' 42nd State Representative District.

Adams won a projected 19,298 votes to Ives' 31,057 votes. Ives, a Wheaton City Councilwoman, said in an October candidate forum she promises to protect taxpayers from corruption that runs "rampant" in Springfield. Ives said she plans to take her experience working on Wheaton City Council down to Springfield.
