Tollway's New Webcams Show Road Conditions

The cameras let you view road congestion -- or lack thereof -- before you walk out the door for your commute.

The Illinois Tollway has looped 15 traffic feeds into its Web site so you can see conditions on the main arteries around Chicago before you get on the road. According to the Illinois Tollway Web site, feeds from 15 traffic camera locations, including two on Veterans Memorial Tollway (I-355), are now accessible to the public through the Tollway's homepage.   A bird's eye view of traffic conditions features three feeds on the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway (I-90), eight on the Tri-State Tollway (I-94/I-294), and two on the Reagan Memorial Tollway (I-88). Public Can Comment on Proposed Toll Hikes

The Illinois Tollway is proposing a $12 billion capital plan that it would fund with a toll rate hike of 35 cents to 45 cents. Motorists can add their 2 cents to the plan at public hearings starting this week.

The Illinois Tollway will hold hearings starting this week, including one in Wheaton on Thursday, to get the public's opinions on a proposed a $12 billion capital plan that motorists would pay for by paying higher tolls. Tolls would increase by 35 cents at a typical mainline toll plaza. Revenue from the increase would fund capital improvements through 2026. The plan includes: Cash-paying motorists currently pay double the tolls of I-PASS users. There rates would go up and they would continue to pay double. Some tolls will increase by more than 35 cents. The 35-cent hike would be applied to 40-cent tolls. Other toll plazas would increase by 45 cents. A press release from the tollway states that this is the first rate hike since 1983, but …

Traffic Alert: Repair Work to Begin on I-90

Road closures and work are scheduled at night, with traffic returning to normal at 5 a.m. each day until construction is completed.

Two road projects are scheduled to begin on the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway (I-90). The exit ramp from the westbound Jane Addams Memorial Tollway (I-90) to southbound Barrington Road and the eastbound entrance ramp from southbound Barrington Road will close nightly for pavement rehabilitation work as part of the I-90 Roadway and Bridge Rehabilitation Project between the Elgin Toll Plaza and Barrington Road. The ramp closures are scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. Sunday, July 24, and continue nightly through Friday, July 29. Ramps will reopen to traffic by 5 a.m. each morning. No detour will be posted. Traffic will be able to use either the Roselle Road interchange 3 miles to the east or the IL Route 59 interchange located 3 miles to the west …
