Police: St. Patrick's Day Crackdown Results in 3 DUIs, 7 Other Arrests

The Lisle Police Department reported Wednesday the results of their state-funded "crackdown" on drunk driving around St. Patrick's Day.

Lisle police charged three people with driving under the influence of alcohol, and made seven other "significant arrests" during an increased enforcement period earlier this month around St. Patrick's Day, officers said. Similar "crackdown" campaigns around St. Patrick's Day were observed statewide by other Illinois and local law enforcement branches. "The campaign featured high-visibility enforcement combined with a variety of outreach activities, which included a strategic media campaign as well as additional enforcement activity," the Lisle Police Department said in a news release Wednesday. 4th of July Tollway Travel Guide

Avoid trouble spots along Chicago-area interstates during your 4th of July travels.

Provided by the Illinois Toll Highway Authority. The Tollway is restricting construction activity and suspending all temporary construction lane closures from noon on Tuesday, July 3, through 9 a.m. on Thursday, July 5.  Some work may continue behind barriers to keep work on schedule, but this work will not impact traffic.  Major construction areas where drivers should plan for slower traffic during the holiday include:  Tri-State Tollway (I-94/I-294/I-80)  Reagan Memorial Tollway (I-88)  Jane Addams Memorial Tollway (I-90) A 45 mph speed limit is in effect 24/7 in all construction zones regardless ofwhether workers are present. A Peek Into the Future of Lisle Cycling

A new grant from IDOT starts construction work on bike-friendly changes to this less-than-bike-friendly village.

Walkers and bicyclists looking to expand their horizons have something new to celebrate. On Oct. 29 the Illinois Department of Transportation announced a $514,700 grant that would begin construction on a local section of the East Branch DuPage River Greenway Trail. Falling between Hobson Road and Maple Avenue, the 5.4-mile multi-use trail will work to connect the villages of Lisle and Woodridge with regional attractions. The 31-mile east branch is one of eight sections of the county's overall plan. Once completed, a cyclist can hop on the Greenway Trail and swing past 29 local parks, ten forest preserve areas and 18 colleges.
