The Lisle Police Department reported Wednesday the results of their state-funded "crackdown" on drunk driving around St. Patrick's Day.
Lisle police charged three people with driving under the influence of alcohol, and made seven other "significant arrests" during an increased enforcement period earlier this month around St. Patrick's Day, officers said. Similar "crackdown" campaigns around St. Patrick's Day were observed statewide by other Illinois and local law enforcement branches. "The campaign featured high-visibility enforcement combined with a variety of outreach activities, which included a strategic media campaign as well as additional enforcement activity," the Lisle Police Department said in a news release Wednesday. All temporary lane closures have been canceled from 9 a.m. today through 7 a.m. Thursday.
The Illinois Tollway is preparing to mobilize its full fleet of 182 snowplows in response to sleet and snow that has already started and is expected to continue overnight into Wednesday around the Chicagoland area, according to a press release. “Our Snow Operations team is monitoring this storm closely and is prepared to manage snowfall throughout the day,” Kristi Lafleur, executive director, Illinois Tollway, said in a statement. “We ask our customers to be patient, drive safely and give our snowplows the room they need to clear the roads, especially during this evening’s rush hour.” Northern Illinois is expected to get 3 to 6 inches of snow from noon until 9 p.m. Some areas could see totals greater than 6 inches should thundersnow …

A survey is being taken to get public input on whether drivers would like to see the median as an extra lane of traffic and whether they'd be willing to pay for the convenience.
The Illinois Department of Transportation is considering a "managed lane" of traffic on Interstate 55 -- possibly with a fee charged -- to help reduce congestion and create a more predictable commute to and from Chicago. IDOT's Managed Lane Project is studying the addition of a lane of traffic on I-55 in each direction that would begin at Interstate 355 and end at Interstate 90/94, aka the Dan Ryan Expressway. Although the proposed route would start at Bolingbrook, it would affect all commuters who pick up I-55 before that point, including drivers from Joliet, Romeoville, Plainfield, Shorewood and Channahon. The city of Naperville is letting residents and motorists know that the Illinois Department of Transportation will continue patching areas of roadway on Ogden Avenue in Naperville and Lisle through the week of Oct. 1. Work will continue on Ogden Avenue between Jefferson Avenue in Naperville east to the I-355 Tollway in Lisle with most of the work occurring east of Naper Boulevard beginning next week. Crews are working anywhere from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and are using flaggers in some areas to indicate lane closures. Residents and motorists should expect long delays and are encouraged to seek alternate routes of travel whenever possible. Avoid trouble spots along Chicago-area interstates during your 4th of July travels.

The Tollway is restricting construction activity and suspending all temporary construction lane closures from noon on Tuesday, July 3, through 9 a.m. on Thursday, July 5. Some work may continue behind barriers to keep work on schedule, but this work will not impact traffic. Major construction areas where drivers should plan for slower traffic during the holiday include: Tri-State Tollway (I-94/I-294/I-80) Reagan Memorial Tollway (I-88) Jane Addams Memorial Tollway (I-90) A 45 mph speed limit is in effect 24/7 in all construction zones regardless ofwhether workers are present. The Lisle Police Department recently wrapped up their participation in the Illinois Department of Transportation’s Memorial Day “Click it or Ticket” seat belt enforcement/awareness campaign. Lisle police conducted six enforcement checks between May 14 and May 25. Officers issued 78 citations, 71 of which were issued for failure to wear a safety belt when required, according to a release from the department. Illinois Vehicle Code requires each driver and front seat passenger shall wear a properly fastened safety belt. Lisle police reported one impaired driving incident over the Memorial Day weekend.
