The Fall Colors Festival Presents: The Scarecrow Trail

Every day this month the Morton Arboretum holds Fall Colors festivities, including this nature-inspired showcase from local Girl Scout troops.

Steel Roots isn't the only exhibit at the Arboretum this month—today marks the launch of the Scarecrow Trail. Featured scarecrows are designed by local Girl Scout troops at this Fall Colors Festival event. Entries hail from groups in Lisle and Naperville, as well as Aurora, Batavia, Downers Grove, Frankfort, Glen Ellyn, Lemont, Lombard, Plainfield and Wheaton. All visitors are encouraged to vote for their favorite scarecrow in the Visitor's Center. At the end of the month, the troop with the most votes will receive a guided Overnight Adventure, and the second place winners will receive a Scout Badge tour of the grounds. Yogi Bear, scout Russell from the movie Up and lady bugs made appearances in previous years. This month's exhibit …

I know that some other areas have similar events but leave the participation wide open. It's a great opportunity for students to be involved in seasonal festivities in a hands-on way.   more ›
