Steve Gaither, president of marketing agency JB Chicago, which has worked with health-care clients, suggested to Crain's that if Edwards merges again and another hospital name gets added, "now all of a sudden it becomes a law…

That's far better than both the state and national average, according to a new database causing some hospital officials nationwide to cringe. It's less than half the national average—30—and barely over a third of the Illinois average—33. Edward also beat the Illinois average in time spent before being admitted as an inpatient (238 minutes, state average 265), average time ER patients with broken bones had to wait before receiving pain medication (35 minutes, state average 57) and average time spent in the ER before being sent home (92 minutes, state average 142.) Key …

Baby Emily Kaczanko is home after 142 days in the Edward Hospital NICU. On Thursday, she reunited with some of her lifesavers.
The day she was born, Emily Kate Kaczanko weighed in at less than a pound — so tiny that her father’s wedding ring could slide over her arm, according to Dr. Rajeev Dixit, one of the doctors who cared for Emily at Edward Hospital in Naperville. On Thursday, the six-month-old reunited with some of the doctors and nurses who helped save her life. “She’s doing great,” said dad Rick Kaczanko of Plainfield. Today, baby Emily tips the scale at 8 pounds, 5 ounces — still small for her age, but growing, her dad said. Kelly Kaczanko was 27 weeks pregnant when she went in for what she thought would be a routine doctor’s visit. Though she showed no sign of…
