A DuPage County First as Courtroom Photo/Video Upheld for Murder Trial

A judge overruled attorneys' objections and will allow cameras in the trial of Willow Springs resident Johnny Borizov, set to begin next month, for a Darien triple-murder.

The trial of a man charged with plotting the murder of three Darien residents will be open to photographers and videographers, the Chicago Tribune reported Monday, a first in DuPage County according to the newspaper. Johnny Borizov of Willow Springs will be on trial beginning April 16 for the murder of Jeffrey, Lori and Michael Kramer, who were shot to death in March 2010 by Jacob Nodarse in a scheme, prosecutors allege, plotted by Borizov and meant to kill Angela Kramer, daughter of Jeffrey and Lori, sister of Michael, and father of Borizov's son. Angela Kramer was in the house at the time and survived by hiding in a closet and dialing 911, officials have said. Nodarse pleaded guilty in 2011 to a single murder count in a deal with …

Court Watch: Chicago Man Seeks to Have Evidence Tossed; Naperville Man Pleaded Guilty in Arson Plot

A look at some of the recent court hearings in the DuPage County court system.

The last of four men charged in a July 7-Eleven robbery has pleaded guilty for his part in the incident, records show. DeShaun Wilson agreed to a deal with prosecutors, who dropped several other counts, in exchange for Wilson receiving a six-year prison sentence with a recommendation for a prison boot camp. The sentence roughly matches those received by two co-defendants — Antonio Finley and Steven Gayden — who also pleaded guilty to robbery in recent months and were sentenced to prison time with boot camp recommendations. Gayden is housed at the Sheridan Correctional Center, while Finley has not yet been assigned. A fourth man, Antwan Jones, has pleaded guilty, but awaits sentencing. He returns to court Jan. 15. Court Watch: Man Pleads Guilty in Lisle 7-Eleven Robbery; Adult Film Start Jenna Jameson Defaults

A round-up of recent court dispositions in DuPage and Kane counties.

One of four men charged in a July robbery at a 7-Eleven recently pleaded guilty for his part in the incident, records show. Steven Gayden, 17, admitted to one count of robbery in a plea deal with prosecutors that included the dismissal of mob action, criminal damage to property and aggravated battery charges. Gayden was sentenced to four years in prison, although he received a recommendation for boot camp that could have him released earlier. Gayden admitted he used force to take liquor and tobacco items from the store. Three other men - DeShaun Wilson, Antonio Finley and Antwan Jones - were also charged. Their cases are pending. Judge Sentences Lisle Man to Jail Time in Child Porn Case: Court Watch

Patch catches you up on some of DuPage County's high-profile court cases. In other local news, the Lisle woman accused of biting a nurse technician at Good Samaritan Hospital in April has asked a judge to place her in the county's mental health program.

The following are recent developments in notable DuPage County court cases: Lisle: A Lisle man was sentenced to 180 days in DuPage County Jail and placed on four years of sex offender probation after he was found guilty of child pornography possession. Patrick Meyer was arrested earlier this year after police found suspected child pornography on the computer in his apartment. Meyer had fought to have the charges thrown out saying police illegally seized evidence by way of a warrant-less search. After withdrawing an earlier guilty plea, he was convicted during a stipulated bench trial in July. At his Sept. 10 sentencing, Meyer was also ordered to register as a sex offender, undergo sex offender counseling and to pay $2,215 in fines and …

A suspect is in custody of U.S. Marshals after a suspicious incident with a powdery substance in a letter at the DuPage County Courthouse Tuesday morning.

Updated Tuesday, 4:11 p.m. A powdery substance a mail clerk found in a letter at the DuPage County Courthouse Tuesday morning is not toxic, according to a press release from the Sheriff's office Tuesday. Authorities continue to investigate a suspicious incident that occurred this morning at the DuPage County Courthouse in Wheaton, according to a press release from the Sheriff's office Tuesday. Personnel from FBI Chicago contacted the Sheriff’s Office and advised the Illinois Dept of Public Health Lab analyzed the suspicious substance and confirmed there was no toxic substances present. Wheaton: For a second time, the trial of a man shot after breaking into an off-duty police officer's home has been postponed. Kerin Ramirez was supposed to stand trial April 24 on home invasion and aggravated battery charges, but the case was again delayed by a witness being unable to testify. Several Ramirez supporters wearing "I am Kerin Ramirez" t-shirts attended the hearing only to learn the trial had been delayed. Ramirez will return to court May 15. Court Watch: Special Prosecutor Appointed to Handle Collin O'Shea's Drug Case

Recent development in DuPage County court cases.

  Elmhurst: In an effort to avoid any potential conflicts, a special prosecutor has been appointed to handle the drug case of a DuPage County judicial candidate's son. Collin O'Shea, whose father is long-serving DuPage County Board member Patrick O'Shea, is charged with selling cocaine in March. During an April 11 hearing, Judge Robert Kleeman agreed to appoint an appellate prosecutor to try the case instead of DuPage County prosecutors. The state's attorney's office acts as legal counsel to all county employees, including the county board. Patrick O'Shea is also on the November ballot to claim a seat on the bench in DuPage's 18th Judicial Circuit. Collin O'Shea returns to court May 16 when he is expected to be arraigned. Downers Grove: A 20-year-old Downers Grove man has pleaded guilty to aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a teen girl in 2010. Daniel Bashaw was charged last year with fondling and having sexual contact with the girl during July and August of 2010. In a plea with prosecutors formalized this week, Bashaw was sentenced to 90 days in the DuPage County Jail, two years of probation and is required to register as a sex offender. Bashaw, who will surrender to the jail on April 10, is also prohibited from having contact with anyone under the age of 18. Prosecutors dropped a second sex abuse count as part of the agreement.   Elmhurst: An April 27 hearing has been set in the case of a man accused of exposing himself to a young girl in 2010. At that hearing, Priyang Parikh will ask a judge to suppress evidence prosecutors have related to the incident at an Elmhurst banquet hall during a wedding. Parikh is charged with attempted predatory criminal sexual assault of a child and sexual exploitation of a child. Prosecutors tried to have Parikh's suppression motion thrown out with a hearing, but a judge recently denied that move.   Elmhurst: A man arrested last year after he shipped marijuana to himself at an Elmhurst storage locker has pleaded guilty to delivery of cannabis. In a plea with prosecutors, Houston Muthart was sentenced to five years in prison, ordered to submit his DNA to a state database and pay $2,630 in court costs. He was arrested when DuPage County drug agents intercepted the package containing marijuana with an estimated value of $68,000. Muthart was owner of a Tinley Park music shop which was raided in 2008. Police found nearly confiscated pot with a street value of nearly $1 million in that raid.
