A two-day hearing was set to determine whether wife-killer Drew Peterson will get another murder trial.
Drew Peterson's murder trial lasted 24 days. Now the wife-killer's looking forward to a two-day hearing to see if he gets to do the whole thing over again. Judge Edward Burmila scheduled the hearing for Feb. 19 and 20. If the judge decides after those two days not give Peterson a new hearing after all, Burmila said he will head straight to sentencing. Peterson, 59, faces up to 60 years in prison for the March 2004 murder of his third wife, Kathleen Savio. Prosecutors have subpoenaed Peterson's second wife, Victoria Connolly, and one of his five sons, Eric Peterson, to testify against him at the sentencing hearing. Connolly has said Peterson threatened to kill her and make her death look like an accident. She also told of Drew Peterson …

Prison bound Drew Peterson fired arguably the most effective attorney on his defense team.
Less than a week after going down for murder in the most sensational criminal case in the state's history, Drew Peterson fired one of the top attorneys on his legal team. "Apparently I've been fired," said defense attorney Steve Greenberg. "I've been discharged," Greenberg said. "I've been terminated." Greenberg said he got a signed notice from Peterson Tuesday. He also said he received a letter from lead attorney Joel Brodsky warning him not to publicly comment about the case. "I'm not going to comment on incompetence," Greenberg said. Greenberg and co-counsel Joseph "Shark" Lopez appeared to have Peterson's case well in hand, as Judge Edward Burmila consistently thwarted prosecutors' attempts to get evidence and testimony before the jury…

The motion was made after Kathleen Savio's neighbor testified Peterson put a bullet in his driveway to intimidate him.
Update 11:30 a.m. Attorneys are in the judge's chambers arguing again whether to declare a mistrial. Neighbor Thomas Pontarelli testified he found a .38-caliber bullet in his driveway. He said Drew Peterson put it in his driveway to intimidate him. Defense attorney Steve Greenberg called for a mistrial. Prosecutor Kathleen Patton conceded that she can't prove Peterson put it there. "You're not going to be able to tie it to the defendant," said Judge Edward Burmila before storming off the bench and ordering the attorneys from both sides to follow him out for a conference. It's the second time in two days the defense has moved for a mistrial. On Tuesday, it looked like there was nearly a mistrial after Will County State's Attorney James …

Seven men and five women will serve as jurors.
Opening statements in Drew Peterson's much anticipated murder trial are expected to be given Tuesday, July 31 in the Will County Courthouse in Joliet. Attorney Joel Brodsky said he will be the one handling opening statements for the defense and revealed his plan to tell "the story of Drew Peterson, from beginning to end." And when Brodsky is done with that story, said defense attorney Steve Greenberg, the jury will be convinced that Peterson did not murder his third wife, Kathleen Savio, by hitting her in the head and drowning her in a bathtub. "There's going to be no question she slipped in the tub and Drew was home when it happened," said Greenberg, who also scoffed at the idea that fresh bruises were discovered on Savio after her body …
