The League of Women Voters of Downers Grove, Woodridge and Lisle has tentatively rescheduled the forum for March 14.
With heavy snow and hazardous driving conditions gripping the Chicago area Tuesday, officials opted to postpone the public forum for Downers Grove school board candidates. The Community High School District 99 candidate forum—hosted by the League of Women Voters of Downers Grove, Woodridge and Lisle—was scheduled for Tuesday night at Village Hall, but was canceled around 5 p.m. due to the snowstorm. "We've heard from two of the candidates and know they can't make it, so we're going to wait until everyone can be there and we can have a better crowd," said Hilary Denk, co-president of the League of Women Voters in Downers Grove. The forum will be held at 7 p.m. at Village Hall, 801 Burlington Ave. Six candidates are running for four open seats on the District 99 school board—incumbents Debbie Boyle, Terry Pavesich and Julia Beckman, and newcomers Rick Pavinato, Henry Jakobsze and Martin Gorski. President John Benish, Jr., details steps taken to resolve the problems that have plagued bus routes since last Wednesday.
From Woodridge Patch: John Benish, Jr., the president of Westway Coach, Inc., released a statement Wednesday morning taking full responsibility for the poor bus service Downers Grove Grade School District 58, Woodridge School District 68 and Community High School District 99 have received since last Wednesday. The districts include a small portion of students in unincorporated areas of Lisle. Last month, the Lisle village board denied a request from the company to operate a portion of its fleet from a Lisle industrial parking lot. He outlined steps taken to fix problems, including replacing at least two employees, as well as meeting with school districts and having employees run practice routes with bus drivers.
