CoffeeCON 2013 is an opportunity for consumers to meet roasters, learn about coffee-related products and, of course, sample coffee and related food items. The event was held for the first time last year and was the brainchild of Kevin Sinnott, a Warrenville resident and coffee authority, who has written extensively on the beverage. Here's one cure for the winter blahs, 7-Eleven stores all over the United States are offering a mid-week pick-me-up to their patrons every Wednesday in January. For the next three weeks, java drinkers can pick up any size cup of coffee for only $1. Brazilian Dark Roast is the retailer's newest best-selling and most full-bodied coffee, according to 7-Eleven. But, coffee lovers are welcome to create their own coffee creation. The deal is valid all day Wednesdays, Jan. 16, 23 and 30. Lisle has two 7-Eleven locations: 1100 Ogden Ave., and 4651 Old Tavern Road.

This afternoon I visited the cafe, which opened in the village on Monday.
12:07 p.m.--much too late for breakfast, but who cares? I had been thinking of cinnamon rolls for approximately 13 hours, since I saw that they were available on the new Grounds for Hope Café's menu. I will confess: I have been hoping for a new favorite coffee shop since leaving Chicago. Logan Square's New Wave Coffee had everything I required in a hangout spot—free WiFi, chamomile tea, a "make yourself at home" atmosphere, free copies of Red Eye and the Onion, even video games. It's been difficult to find a suitable replacement. While the couches are outrageously comfortable at the Lisle Starbucks, I don't care for the pastries; the library is quiet and the orange chairs are large but there is no food; I get too distracted by the …

I can't make it but I would like to know what property the village is now proposing to purchase that they plan to discuss in a closed meeting tonight! The Village can't sell the property it already owns on Main St and by that "pond" - why on earth would Lisle taxpayers want to fund purchase of more land? Can we afford to take more property off the tax rolls?   more ›
