Lisle police officers will increase seat belt patrols from May 10-27.
Lisle police this month join hundreds of other police departments in cracking down on those who do not buckle up. The 2013 Click It or Ticket campaign kicks off May 10 in Illinois and continues through May 27. Lisle police and Illinois State Police are just two of the 500-plus local law enforcement agencies across the state hoping to save more lives by strongly enforcing seat belt laws. Provisional numbers show that there were six fatalities and almost 600 injuries on Illinois roadways during the 2012 Memorial Day weekend. Three of those fatalities were alcohol-related. The Lisle Police Department reported Wednesday the results of their state-funded "crackdown" on drunk driving around St. Patrick's Day.
Lisle police charged three people with driving under the influence of alcohol, and made seven other "significant arrests" during an increased enforcement period earlier this month around St. Patrick's Day, officers said. Similar "crackdown" campaigns around St. Patrick's Day were observed statewide by other Illinois and local law enforcement branches. Lisle police made nine arrests and issued 18 citations during the recent July 4th Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over/Click It or Ticket crackdown on drunk drivers and seat belt law violators, according to a release from the department. Law enforcement agencies throughout Illinois participated in this statewide effort to get drunk drivers off our roadways and encourage seat belt use, especially during late-night hours. The Lisle Police Department recently wrapped up their participation in the Illinois Department of Transportation’s Memorial Day “Click it or Ticket” seat belt enforcement/awareness campaign. Lisle police conducted six enforcement checks between May 14 and May 25. Officers issued 78 citations, 71 of which were issued for failure to wear a safety belt when required, according to a release from the department. Illinois Vehicle Code requires each driver and front seat passenger shall wear a properly fastened safety belt. Lisle police reported one impaired driving incident over the Memorial Day weekend. from the Lisle Police Department The Lisle Police Department recently participated in the Illinois Department of Transportation's Thanksgiving "Click It or Ticket" seatbelt enforcement/awareness campaign. The police department conducted four details starting Nov. 14 and ending Nov. 27. Overall, 91 citations were issued, with 31 citations issued for failure to wear a safety belt when required. Each driver and front seat passenger of a motor vehicle operated on a street or highway in Illinois shall wear a properly fastened safety belt, according to the Illinois Vehicle Code.
