Late-night DUI Crackdown Tonight

Lisle Police will conduct a Roadside Safety Checkpoint on Ogden Avenue as the Fourth of July holiday weekend approaches.

The Lisle Police Department will be looking out for anyone driving under the influence Friday night along Ogden Avenue. The officers will focus on possible impaired drivers and other traffic safety concerns including seat belt violations. Traffic studies show late night hours in summer are the deadliest time for vehicle crashes that are alcohol-related. Studies show in the last five years between June and August in Illinois, 149 of the 253 fatalities between midnight and 3 a.m. involved a drinking driver.  Public Information Officer Ron Wilke said the program is primarily to educate drivers before the holidays come around when there are statistically more accidents.  "The educational part of that is to 'think before you drink,'" he said.  …
