Fall events are ramping up for the season. Where did the time go? This shot from the August Cruise Night beckons to the very first hint of fall, on a randomly cool week at the end of the month. The outdoor movie season and summer programs ended. Schools went into session, and the Downtown Business Council hosted the last of its monthly summer car shows. Since this Patch site had not yet launched, not having to cover these events as a reporter allowed me to experience them as a plain old resident, to enjoy a post-car show meal at Evviva and watch the trains go by in the twilight. It's good to see people kick their feet back on the weekends and enjoy a village event. So don't let the cooler weather scare you inside—just grab a jacket.

The Lisle Hilton secured a new event for next year, and it comes with a celebration by the village. Lisle will host the U.S. Beauties National Pageant Contest, which includes categories for Miss, Ms. and Mrs. contestants, July 8-10. Previously held in Schaumburg, festivities will begin with a parade through the downtown to introduce the contestants. The pageant will take place at Naperville's Wentz Center. The theme is "'50s to '90s flashback." Larry Slade, sales manager for the Lisle Convention and Visitors Bureau, confirmed that the parade would run down Main Street between Burlington and Ogden avenues.
