Performances begin March 7.
Benet Academy in Lisle will perform The Sound of Music Thursday, March 7 through Saturday, March 9, and Thursday, March 14 through Saturday, March 16, all at 7:30 p.m. Matinees are 2 p.m. Saturday, March 9 and Sunday, March 10. The performances will be held in the St. Daniel Hall Auditorium, 2200 Maple Ave. Tickets are $10 each. Ticket information is available by calling the Ticket Information Line at 630-247-1068.

Local school officials announce cancellation of after-school activities as well as postponement of an IHSA varsity basketball playoff games due to winter weather advisory.
Update: Feb. 26, 1:57 p.m. With a winter weather advisory calling for 3 to 6 inches of snow for the Naperville area, local school officials announced a few changes to after-school schedules Tuesday. Snow, Rain, Sleet Could Make for Messy Tuesday Evening Commute Both Naperville School District 203 and Indian Prairie School District 204 have canceled all after-school activities Tuesday due to winter weather. "Due to the weather, all after-school activities in the district are canceled for Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013. The YMCA's Safe-n-Sound program will operate as usual today," according to Indian Prairie School District 204. District 203 posted a similar announcement on its website as well as via a TALK203 email to parents and guardians. …

Lincoln-Way East 37, Benet 13. The Griffins continue to roll in the playoffs and have a shot at a state championship next week.
A showdown for the ages is set for the Class 7A state championship. Lincoln-Way East (13-0) blew past Benet Academy 37-13 in the state semifinals and will face undefeated Glenbard West next week in the title game. Glenbard beat Lake Zurich earlier in the day, winning 19-13. The Griffin defense picked off Benet quarterback Jack Beneventi three times and held him to 9-of-28 passing. According to the Chicago Tribune, running back Nick Colangelo had 183 yards rushing and two touchdowns to lead the way for Lincoln-Way East. Benet finishes the season 11-2, with its only other loss coming to St. Patrick. Glenbard West and Lincoln-Way East will battle for the state championship at 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, at Memorial Stadium in Champaign. …

The National Honor Society is one of the nation's premier organizations established to recognize outstanding high school students. Lichon completed her four years at Benet with a cumulative, all subject, weighted grade point average of 99.81 percent. Over the last few years, she has received a variety of honors including recognitions as an Illinois State Scholar, as a member of the National Honor Society, and as a National Merit Commended Scholar. She has also received departmental scholarship awards in English, Mathematics, Religion, Science, Spanish, and Social Studies. from Benet Academy Last week Benet Academy announced the 2012 seniors who received departmental or service awards. The following students from Lisle were honored: The Dr. James Lemense Leadership Award was created to honor Benet’s first lay principal. Dr. Lemense began his tenure as principal in the 1987-88 school year. At the end of his first year he was diagnosed with ALS, or Lou Gehrig’s disease, which forced him to retire early in his second year. This award honors a member of the senior class whose leadership and contributions to Benet over his or her years here have contributed to making Benet a better place. from Benet Academy The Benet Academy Math Team won the Illinois 3AA State Championship Saturday, May 5 in Champaign-Urbana. The title was the Math Team’s second, the other occurring in 2005. Senior Tom Gannon of Downers Grove set the tone early in the day by winning the state championship in the Oral competition with 48 out of a possible 50 points. Later in the day, in a large jam packed auditorium, Tom and Junior Brendan Caseria of Naperville finished second in the State in the Junior-Senior two-person competition. To wrap up a terrific day, Tom capped it off with an 8th place finish in the Pre-Calculus written competition.
