Lisle residents aren't the only ones to get a taste of this local bakery.
Walk into the Downers Grove Main Street train station during morning rush hour and you'll see commuters enjoying the cups of coffee that get their days started. But instead of having to pick up their morning joe from the nearby coffee shops, they can get it right at the station from John Dough Bakery Express. An extension of the popular bakery in downtown Lisle, the kiosk serves an abbreviated menu of hot or iced coffees, lattes, teas, juices, and a variety of danish, doughnuts and pastries. The location serves as many as 200 customers by 9 a.m. Lynn Horejs has been serving up coffee to her customers since the kiosk opened. "Our customer service goes above and beyond what people expect," explains Horejs. "When we see our customers walk in…

Bakery and eatery is now part of the ever-expanding Sustainable Lisle Business Partnership. Air Cycle is expected to join soon after it passes its green audit.
Green at a local eatery can be found in more than just the salads. John Dough Bakery is the newest member of the Sustainable Lisle Business Partnership—Green by Choice. And another business soon will join the ranks of local businesses who are recognized for their efforts to lessen their impact on the environment. John Dough Bakery, 4740 Main St., is a bakery, lunch spot and caterer that local businessmen John Zydowicz and Jim Miller opened in August. The two use certified organic ingredients in their salads and create catering menus using organic goods. They use energy-efficient appliances and resource conservation techniques. The shop's decorative lighting and bakery cases' lighting are made from recycled glass. Display cases filled …

This afternoon I visited the cafe, which opened in the village on Monday.
12:07 p.m.--much too late for breakfast, but who cares? I had been thinking of cinnamon rolls for approximately 13 hours, since I saw that they were available on the new Grounds for Hope Café's menu. I will confess: I have been hoping for a new favorite coffee shop since leaving Chicago. Logan Square's New Wave Coffee had everything I required in a hangout spot—free WiFi, chamomile tea, a "make yourself at home" atmosphere, free copies of Red Eye and the Onion, even video games. It's been difficult to find a suitable replacement. While the couches are outrageously comfortable at the Lisle Starbucks, I don't care for the pastries; the library is quiet and the orange chairs are large but there is no food; I get too distracted by the …

The village and Chamber of Commerce recognize the John Dough Bakery's opening in an official ceremony.
Members of the Village of Lisle, Lisle Chamber of Commerce and Lisle Convention and Visitors Bureau celebrated the opening of owner Jim Miller and chef John Zydowicz's John Dough Bakery. While the bakery opened its doors at the end of August, the pair held a grand opening for customers in September and chose today as their official ribbon cutting. Congratulations, gentlemen!

Former Upper Crust baker John Zydowicz is whipping up cakes and those famous kolackys in the John Dough Bakery.
Lisle residents have something new to be excited about, as their favorite baker is back in town and conveniently located on Main Street. John Zydowicz, chef and baker of the former Upper Crust Bakery has reopened his business with the help of his longtime friend, Jim Miller. "I knew John had the customer base due to his 8 years of business in Lisle. I was also impressed with the renovations to Main Street that the city was completing," Miller said. Then the ideal property opened up. Jensen's Upholstery owner Paul Jensen decided to relocate his business to the lower level of the 4740 Main St. space and offer the street level space to the bakery. Miller and Zydowicz wanted their store to reflect the physical changes of the village. "We …

A month after former Upper Crust owner returns as the John Dough Bakery, the new team makes it official.
The heads of John Dough Bakery—Jim Miller, the owner, and John Zydowicz, the head chef—welcomed Lisle residents to their grand opening celebration on Sat. 25. The bakery has officially been in business since Aug. 23. "A month ago there were still kinks to work out. There are still kinks, but things are running smoother now," Miller said of their celebration. Miller offered Zydowicz a partnership opportunity after Zydowicz closed the Upper Crust bakery at the corner of Burlington and Main streets. The new business offers daily baked goods and breads, lunch options, made-to-order cakes and catering. Patrons packed the open space between the counter and tables. Employees cut samples of brownies and two sheet cakes, offered mini sandwiches and…

we had high hopes for a walk to cafe - and it could be a nice place to sit, gather, chat with friends... BUT - with the kids climbing area just adjacent - with no sound wall - it was NOT enjoyable wiht a dozen screaming kids climbing in the tower area... BAD design - look at any "play area" + cafe - like McD - the play area is walled off. Why would anyone want to go to the cafe and have the …   more ›
