An estimated 900 feet stampeded after the Scarecrow this year, and race officials said record numbers were in attendance.
A record amount of runners and walkers showed up for last night's Scarecrow Scramble, according to officials. The annual nighttime event, which is held in Community Park, saw over 450 5k entries, and nearly 50 children for the tot and youth runs earlier that afternoon. Entrants hailed from all of Chicagoland—as well as one runner from Colorado! Entries for the 5k were divided into nine age groups. Race officials recognized the top three male and female finishers in each age group--a total of 48 awardees (with only one finisher in the 70-and-up division). The "object" of the race is to beat the Scarecrow across the finish line, and nearly 100 racers beat the his 26-minute run. Orland Hills resident Mark Luttrell made an impressive first …

Orland Hills resident and runner 509 Mark Luttrell took first place this evening at the annual Scarecrow Scramble 5k run/walk, while the infamous Scarecrow fell in the middle of the pack, crossing the finish line at the 26-minute mark. Event officials said they saw a record number of participants, with upwards of 450 5k runners and walkers, and nearly 100 children in the youth runs. The village's only nighttime running event, the course around Community Park was lit with white paper lumaries. Some runners donned their Halloween costumes; families had the chance to enjoy hayrides around the park, music and snacks. Congratulations to all of this year's participants! Watch out for extended photo coverage of the Scarecrow Scramble tomorrow …

There is nothing better than a brisk run or walk with leaves crackling underfoot; and there is no better fall destination for that than the Scarecrow Scramble 5K Run/Walk. The event, which is in its sixth year, begins at 4 p.m. with costume contests, and a tot and a youth run. It culminates in a 5k run/walk race, followed by pizza from Evviva. The proceeds benefit the Lisle Partners for Parks Foundation and the Lisle Community Character Counts! Alliance. "This is a true all-Lisle event. Our volunteers are from all areas of Lisle, including the cross country students at Lisle High School. And the volunteers are the backbone of this event," said race director Kim Brondyke. The best thing about the Scarecrow Scramble may be that it …
