According to Bureau Chief Jim French, the Lisle-Woodridge Fire District serves a whole gamut of emergency andMore non-emergency needs. The department existed as the Lisle Fire Department upon its opening in the mid-1940's, then expanded to cover Woodridge in the 1960's. The fire district is rated a Class 1 fire district by the Insurance Services Office, which is the highest rating in the nation. Today, it serves 70,000 residents with over 5,000 calls received per year. Its services have expanded to include medical services (including technical rescue), hazardous materials collection, fire and arson investigation, water rescue and monthly CPR classes. The department also conducts building fire code enforcement, inspections and reviews pending building plans for code compliance. Station 1 is the main station and holds the administrative offices. The building houses eight administrative vehicles, one medical vehicle, one engine and one ladder truck. A list of services, as well as tips on fire prevention, can be found on the district web site.
