Pillars of the Community Show Lisle's Character

The Lisle Character Counts Alliance honors outstanding community members with Pillar Awards, and scholarship, to be presented at Monday's village board meeting.

It has been said that character is how we behave when no one is looking.  It is the intangible notion to do “the right thing,” and for the Lisle Character Counts Alliance (LCCA), character is embodied in six pillars of behavior: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship.  Every year Lisle Character Counts looks to the community to nominate individuals and groups who have demonstrated these traits, and recognizes them with Pillar Awards.

This year's recipients will be honored at Monday night's village board meeting.

This year the Pillar Award winners are as impressive in their accomplishments as they are in their character.  The first winner is not one person, but the entire Lisle High softball team and their coach, Jennifer Pomatto.  They were nominated by Mary Pat Hamilton, who praised the group for their acceptance and kindness to her daughter, , who is developmentally disabled.  Coach Pomatto asked Anne to manage the team at the beginning of the season and the relationship has blossomed into friendship, acceptance and encouragement.

To be eligible to receive a Pillar Award nominees must live, work or go to school in Lisle.  Alliance president Autumn Lombardo is also excited to announce that for the first time they will also be awarding a $500 Scholarship to a graduating senior at the Pillar Awards ceremony at the village board meeting.  There will be a reception at 6:30 p.m. with the meeting beginning at 7 p.m.
