Bake Sale at St. Joan of Arc Will Have International Benefits

The efforts of Grandmothers to Grandmothers assist women in Kenya. They're holding a bake sale after St. Joan of Arc Church masses this weekend.

parishoners with a sweet tooth will find following their Memorial Day weekend services. Your purchase will help your stomach--and a community organization.

This is the third effort by Grandmothers to Grandmothers. The group started as the brain child of Lisle resident Donna Schreiber, who organized the first sale in spring 2011. Schreiber collected funds to aid Upendo Village, a program which provides assistance to Kenyan families affected by HIV/AIDS. Schreiber concentrates on women who must step in to care for grandchildren after they've lost their own children to AIDS.

Soon, she invited other members of the parish to join in, and they're known as Grandmothers to Grandmothers. Through , the group collected more than $3,000.

Approximately 30 members are contributing treats to this weekend's sale, which will be available after Saturday and Sunday masses while supplies last. (Schreiber said they tend to run out by the Sunday evening service.)
