DuPage County Opens Cooling Center at BenU

As a heat wave continues, DuPage residents needing relief from the hot temperatures can head to Benedictine University.

Storms late Sunday morning have left thousands in the area without power, according to ComEd. The National Weather Service expects the current heat wave to last through the week. 

 

DuPage residents may use as a cooling center as temperatures consistently climb above 90 degrees, DuPage County Board Chairman Dan Cronin announced Monday.

“Temperatures are expected to reach record highs again today and could potentially turn dangerous. Please remember to check on friends and family who may not have power or are without air conditioning. Residents can seek shelter at Benedictine University’s Krasa Center located in Lisle. The shelter will provide residents with a safe place to stay while their power is being restored,” Cronin said in a release from the County.

The shelter is located in the university's Krasa Center, at the heart of campus.

Residents are urged to bring necessities with them to the shelter such as medications, medical devices, toiletries and a change of clothes, according to the release.
