Lisle Volleyball Claims Two Victories in One Night

Lions dispatch Plano and raise money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation

Sometimes it is the sign of a good team when you can win even when you are not playing your best.

The Lions held out against a tough Plano team, taking the match in two games (25-15, 25-23).   The Lions started slow in the second game, forcing them to come from behind for the victory.

“We won the first game by a lot so I think we came out a little relaxed” said Beth Plucinski.  “We kept getting distracted by hitting out, but we pulled through”.

The distractions were caused in part by the electric atmosphere at school, with the Lions and fans dressed in pink and supporting the fourth annual Volley for the Cure for the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

Down by six in the second game, the Lions crept up on Reapers to make it a close.   A kill by Plucinski seemed to put the pressure on Plano.   After a Lisle time out, the Lions seemed to gel once again.

“The coach told us to stay focused” said Darian Payne.  “I think he could see we were distracted.  He just told us to have to go after it because we’ve done it before”.

Plucinski and Vanessa Abenante both had four kills in the second game, leading the comeback.  Anita Urban had nine assists in the second game after 10 assists in the opener.

The next volleyball home game will be October 18 against Seneca.
