Tate Woods Students Raise More Than $800 with Reading Makes Cents

The students collected a penny for every book read, and used the money to benefit several sea creatures.

students collected a penny for every book they read through the Library Resource Center’s Reading Makes Cents program. The grand total was 88,045 pennies, or $880!

The funds will benefit several sea creatures from the Brookfield Zoo and other institutions, including:

  • Coral, humpback whale, Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society
  • Noelani, Spree, and Tapeko, dolphins, Brookfield Zoo
  • Sterling, harbor seal, Brookfield Zoo
  • Josephine, California sea lion, Brookfield Zoo
  • Ariel, penguin, Brookfield Zoo
  • a grey seal from the Lincoln Park Zoo

An additional donation was made to the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Hospital.
