Lisle High School Senior Banquet 2011

Students celebrated their impending graduation with a little help from local entities.

On May 11, LSHS held the Senior Banquet at the . The Senior Banquet has been a tradition since the school's first graduating class, and is presented by the Home and School Organization. The evening is the final opportunity for the class to be together in a formal setting prior to graduating.

Since the first day of kindergarten parent volunteers eagerly plan room parties, send treats, paint faces, chaperone field trips and do whatever is needed to assist the school district. The Senior Banquet is technically the last room party hosted by H.S.O., so the celebration comes at no cost to the students. Expenses like postage, invitations, programs and cake are covered by donations made by parents and local businesses.

In the early days, parents decorated the high school and prepared the food. At some point the event was moved to a banquet facility (making the night even more special). In recent years the committee chose a beautiful hall located in Woodridge because their price was very accommodating to a limited budget.

When owner Rob Salerno heard that the event was not held in Lisle he was compelled to bring it back home.

Since the party room at Evviva isn't large enough to accommodate the number of Lisle students in the senior class, Salerno initiated a partnership with a local hotel to host the banquet. Salerno did all the legwork to contact and convince the Hilton Lisle/Naperville general manager, Richard Brink, to provide the banquet room, audio/visual equipment, on-site technical support and event staff. The only thing the Hilton GM asked in return was a nominal gratuity.  Evviva! donated food for the evening.

The class of 2011 was treated to a three-course meal and a short program that included addresses by Principal Pete Sullivan. English instructor Courtney Multthaupt presented the class superlatives. Seniors watched a video slideshow of photos that spanned from birth to senior year, and were all given a copy to take home. Finally, the seniors receive their yearbooks.

Not many schools in the area have one elementary school feeding into one junior high and then one high school. With the exception of the few students who transfer into the district each year, the majority of the teens have never had to make new friends, they have lived their entire lives with the same group of peers. The Senior Banquet provides a perfect setting and the unique opportunity mark the end of one chapter and the start of another.
