Lisle Heritage Society Hosting Third Grade Tours

Schiesher and St. Joan of Arc students will tour Museums at Lisle Station Park on Tuesday.

from the Lisle Historical Society

May is a special month for third graders in Lisle. That’s when the children get to ‘go back in time’ and experience what school and daily life was like for 19th century children living in the village.

Third grade students from St. Joan of Arc School visited the Museums at Lisle Station Park on May 11; Schiesher students will visit the Museum campus Tuesday and spend a long morning discovering the differences in life from the late 1800's and today. Schools send teachers and several parent chaperons to oversee the children as they visit the different museum buildings.

At every location Lisle Heritage Society volunteers will share information about what life in the late 1800s: no indoor plumbing, electricity, TV or PlayStation.  Travel was by train or horseback or buggy and the Blacksmith was always busy.  Back then children walked to school and for School Days in May 2011.

The kids always have many questions.  They want to know how the children survived without cell phones or electronic games.  Thanks to the LHS volunteers the third graders receive a lively picture of what life in the Lisle area was like about 150 years ago.

If the weather permits the children will start the afternoon with a sack lunch on the museum grounds before they begin the walk back to their class rooms.
