Field Narrows in Naperville District 203 Election

Five candidates remain in the race for three seats on the board of education.

As Election Day nears, the field in the Board of Education race has narrowed. Two candidates have dropped out  leaving the field at five.

Candidates Maureen Kilty and Laura Grimes-Pinckard have withdrawn from the race. Kilty withdrew last Friday and Grimes-Pinckard withdrew a few weeks ago, according to Ann Bell, the board of education secretary.

Three incumbents—Board President Mike Jaensch, Suzyn Price and Terry Fielden along with Jay Fisher and Bethany Weeks continue to run for three seats on the board. The election takes place on April 5, 2011.

Among the new candidates for the board, Fisher, a Lisle resident, said in a that he served four terms on the Woodridge-Lisle Fire District Board of Trustees and he was looking for another way to serve.

Weeks said she was looking toward the future. Though she has no children yet, Weeks said she could bring a unique perspective to the School Board and that her main interest is planning ahead and looking towards the future of the District.

Among the incumbents, Price has the most experience and is the longest serving of the board members.

Fielden chose to run again because he wants to continue to address budget issues and ensure students are getting the best education possible that will prepare them for college or careers.

Current Board President Jaensch said educating the community's children is one of the most important things a community oversees, and serving on the board is his way of contributing.
