District 203 Approves Budget, Welcomes New Hire

The district has a new assistant superintendent of secondary education. Board unanimously passes 2011-12 budget.

On Monday night, the Naperville School District 203 board of education approved its budget for 2011-12.

The board began discussing the budget in May and the public was given a month to comment on the proposed budget before the board took action.

Dave Zager, the district’s chief operating officer, laid out the budget at prior meetings, explaining that the district’s operating budget for 2011-12 will be $224 million and it will be balanced. Construction costs are $13.2 million and the district’s debt service is $3.6 million.

A report in TribLocal.com stated that the budget was approved without public comment or discussion Monday night. The budget passed unanimously 5-0, with two board members absent.

The school district has also announced that it has a new assistant superintendant of secondary education. In a news release, the district announced that Dan Bridges was appointed to the position on Monday.

Bridges is the principal at West Aurora High School, where he has worked since 2007. He has worked in the West Aurora School District since 1998, according to the District 203 news release.

Throughout his career in the West Aurora School District Bridges has worked in a variety of roles, including assistant principal at Jewel Middle School, principal at Fearn Elementary School and principal at Herget Middle School. He also acted as the district director of athletics for two years, according to the news release.

Bridges has a bachelor’s degree in history and secondary education from Millikin University, a master’s in educational leadership from Aurora University, an EdS in Educational Administration from Northern Illinois University and he is currently working on the EdD at NIU, according to District 203.
