Illinois is No Mr. Olympia, But It's a Stronger State Than You Might Think

A lot has changed in the United States since 1931. Does that include Illinois' standing on lists of the "strongest" states?

Politico recently published its list of the "strongest" states, ranking all 50 based off 14 different criteria gathered from sources such as the FBI and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The authors of the list were inspired by H.L. Mencken and Charles Angoff's 1931 series "The Worst American State," which ranks states in 1930s-relevant categories like "Number of cases of smallpox" and "Number of telephones."

We took a look at how Politico's list and the 1931 list compares. Check it out and see if Illinois has improved or gotten worse.
