The residents were honored at Monday night's board meeting.

Caring, Responsibility and Citizenship – important values to be sure. Those attributes were on display during the ’s Nov. 7 board meeting as Lisle Mayor Joe Broda recognized the recipients of the 2011 Fall Character Counts! Pillar Awards. The audience cheered as each recipient was announced. Mayor Broda congratulated the winners and provided each one with a Proclamation recognizing the award.

Character Counts! is a non-profit organization that encourages people to model six important values or pillars: Trustworthiness, Fairness, Caring, Citizenship, Respect and Responsibility. Character Counts! Pillar Awards are periodically awarded to individuals, businesses or groups whose actions reflect one of the pillar values.

The 2011 Fall Character Counts! Pillar Award Winners are (in alphabetical order):

  • Kathy Brock, for demonstrating CARING for her efforts that extend above and beyond the normal duties of a crossing guard.
  • Helen Chow for demonstrating CITIZENSHIP when she assisted the 2011 RADKIDS Program, a personal safety program for children.
  • Elizabeth Clifford and her eighth grade St. Joan of Arc religious formation class for demonstrating RESPONSIBILITY. Elizabeth inspires and motivates her students to go above what is required - to have “heart, not just actions.” As a result, her students far surpassed the requirements for community service.
  • Paul Eckard, for demonstrating CITIZENSHIP for assisting neighbors during the 2011 winter storms.

The Village of Lisle congratulates all winners and is proud of their accomplishments. Because of their actions, Lisle is a better place!
