Saturday Mail Delivery to End, Postal Service Announces

The U.S. Postal Service announced it will end Saturday mail delivery by Aug. 1. Speak out: How will this affect you?

Calling the six-days-per-week mail delivery business model “no longer sustainable,” the U.S. Postal Service Wednesday morning announced it will eliminate Saturday delivery of mail by Aug. 1.

The plan to change delivery from six days a week to five would only affect first-class mail.

Packages, mail-order medicines, priority and express mail would still be delivered on Saturdays, and local post offices will remain open for business Saturdays. This includes local post offices in Algonquin, at 801 West Algonquin Road, and in Crystal Lake, at 301 East Congress Parkway.

According to the U.S. Postal Service, the reasons for nixing Saturday delivery have to do with continued economic struggles and the increasing use of the Internet for communications and bill paying by consumers.

The U.S. Postal Service is also the only federal agency required to pre-fund health benefits for retirees, and those costs are escalating quickly.

“Our current business model of delivering mail six days a week is no longer sustainable. We must change in order to remain an integral part of the American community for decades to come," according to information posted on the U.S. Postal website

Saturday is the lightest mail delivery day by volume and many businesses are closed on Saturdays, according to the U.S. Postal Service. However, many residents receive print magazines and ads on Saturdays in the mail that may be shifted to another day.

A Rasmussen poll on mail delivery in 2012 showed “Three-out-of-four Americans (75 percent) would prefer the U.S. Postal Service cut mail delivery to five days a week rather than receive government subsidies to cover ongoing losses.”

A USA Today/Gallup poll in 2010 found the majority of U.S. residents surveyed were ok with eliminating Saturday delivery.

The March 2010 telephone survey of 999 adults revealed people age 55 and older were more likely than younger people to have used the mail to pay a bill or send a letter in the past two weeks.

Speak out: How will this change affect you? Will you miss getting mail on Saturdays?

^See page 5 of the above Dept of Agriculture report published by the Humane Society of the U.S. andRead More posted by "Ashley." It clearly states Puppy (Mill) Parlor uses puppy mills to obtain their puppies: "Certificates of Veterinary Inspection reveal that Puppy Parlor buys from Conrad Kennel in Keota, Iowa which has been cited for violations of the federal Animal Welfare Act by the USDA, including dogs with matted coats and filth. Conrad Kennels had 226 breeding dogs and 27 puppies on site according to its October 22, 2012, USDA inspection report. The store also buys from Oleo Acres Kennel and J.A.K.’s Puppies, Inc., in Iowa – two large brokerage operations that collect puppies from mills and re-sell them. J.A.K. buys many puppies from Wanda Kretzman/Clearwater Kennels in Minnesota, who has egregious violations of the federal Animal Welfare Act reflected on her USDA inspection reports." This, my friends, describes puppy mills. NOT private, reputable breeders. When Tammy puts her dog/puppies in the x-pen, outside, in the grass, behind her store - the puppies spin around in circles, bark and screech, and turn on and attack one another. This is textbook puppy mill puppy behavior from dogs who've NEVER been out of their cages their entire lives. Proof they're puppy mill puppies. The above report also shows a picture of what the back room of the store looks like. Where they had over 100 dogs crammed in cages. They won't let ANY potential customers in the back room. Why? They'll lie and tell you it's an OSHA violation to have anyone but staff go back
Dianne Arp June 19, 2013 at 12:24 am
there. We checked with OSHA, there is no such violation. Lies, lies, lies. If they let you in theRead More back room you'd see the horrific, cruel conditions in which those dogs/puppies are housed. The puppies and dogs inside Puppy (Mill) Parlor are NOT rescued dogs. They do NOT hold "Adoption Events." They are NOT a rescue. They are NOT a 501c3 organization. If they were, Tammy Coglianese would have a Tax ID number issued by the IRS. She doesn't have one! They sell sick and dying puppy mill puppies to unsuspecting customers who believe they're being told the truth. They'll tell you anything you want to hear, lie right to your face, in order to get their hands on your credit card. And being "licensed by the Dept of Ag" means absolutely nothing. Puppy mills are also licensed by the DOA. And as if that's not enough, Puppy (Mill) Parlor was listed on the Horrible 100 Puppy Mills in the United States. They're the ONLY pet store in the entire U.S. listed in the report! Google it and see for yourself. Go to a shelter, or a rescue. There are even breed-specific rescues out there. If you're looking for a Schnauzer, Google: "Schnauzer rescue Illinois" and lists of Schnauzer-only rescues will pop up. If you buy a sick and dying puppy from Puppy (Mill) Parlor, you'll spend thousands in vet bills and most likely the dog will die anyway. We've heard from many, many people who've had exactly that happen. If you've purchased a dog from this hell hole, go to the Companion Animal Protection Society (CAPS) website at caps-web.org and complete a pet purchase complaint form.

You can be JUST within the DOA's guidelines and still found acceptable, doesn't mean it ISRead More acceptable. Selling dogs in a store to the DOA has the same guidelines as raising and selling of cattle. Why were you thrown out of the AKC, or did you forget to mention that the biggest dog canine association in the COUNTRY even disowned and distanced themselves for you? Why won't you show people what's in the back room if you have nothing to hide? Leave the door open 24/7 if you have nothing to hide. You stated in your so called "interview" it was against OSHA rules and regulations, once again a lie. If you only breed yorkies "now and then", where do the other dogs come from? I have no doubt you love dogs, why not they make you money. If you really loved dogs, you would treat them a heck of a lot better than you do. Where do the dogs in the back room get exercise? They are never walked or given exercise! How cruel! Why did the hair salon next door leave and why is there records of the two of you fighting over the stench that drove her business away? Why do you and your "workers" have to swear at the protesters, worse yet, in front of children? Why do you flip off kids that are out there? Why does the store front have to look like a junk store constantly? Where did you dumpster dive that "adoption" sign you had? Oh that's right, Petco, never mind. Wonder if they knew you were using their trademarked sign? Why aren't the dogs records directly next to the dogs that being sold? As for the "rescue" dogs, when they come from your back store pit, the only reason those would be rescues is because they are finally getting released from that place! You're telling people you're working with rescues, WHAT rescues? NAME them! Oh that's right, you can't. Just more lies! How do you sleep at night Tammy while all those dogs lie in those cages crying at night, peeing and pooping on each other? Sick, just sick! But as they say, every dog has their day.

Is this you asking her the questions Roseanne? I need the report. Why do you not allow anyone inRead More the backroom of your store? TC: According to my insurance agent and OSHA regulations no one can go in the back room besides myself and my staff unless it is a government official. I am regulated by the Illinois Department of Agriculture and except for one violation

It's sad to think someone that seems fairly intelligent would really think two hours of peopleRead More legally protesting ONE store, once a week, is going to take down an entire community's downtown business. No one can be that blind.
Rita June 19, 2013 at 10:31 am
I'm going to be truly honest here, I could care less whether you believe in what we're doing.Read More Everyone has their opinion, as I'm sure you are well aware of the old saying about opinions.... My real problem here isn't whether you believe this woman is telling the truth or whether we are, doesn't matter to me. However, to say we are ruining Lisle's downtown protesting a store once a week for two hours is ludicrous. Lisle's downtown has been in a tail spin for years now. They tried rejuvenating the downtown with it's makeover, unfortunately during that period of time, it drove many businesses out of downtown because people weren't coming because of the construction and mass confusion that was downtown. Millions spent, looks beautiful, but now there's no businesses. Meanwhile, businesses are turned away because it doesn't fit into the "vision" the current board has for Lisle. It's been years with this "vision". Apparently it's not working, time to get a new vision. You need a business that is going to pull businesses into the area, such as Cadence Health Care that wanted to lease/buy the old Bank of America building, but were turned away because they aren't a retail business. Retail business or not, that would've brought a LOT of business into Lisle. Instead they, or people like yourself, keep and support a business like Puppy Parlor and blame protesters for the lack of business downtown. How long have you lived in and followed what actually goes on with the businesses in Lisle Roseanne? If you've followed it at all, you would've found out by now, we, the protesters, aren't the people shooting the businesses or Lisle in the foot.

Patch posts mugshots as part of reporting on police actions. We can never be paid to removeRead More mugshots, and thus are not an "extortion website." We can always update articles and report on future developments in the adjudication process.

kindly directed at the editor~ Sorry Mr. Editor, you will get no Mia culpeas from me. I findRead More your practice of posting large head shots on this site appalling and yes it's definitely a form of cyber-bulling and possibly putting innocent people's identity at risk. Other neighboring suburbs post the local police reports without the need of a picture. Many local area Patch.com sites post the names , their offense and where he/she was apprehended. That is sufficient. But as I observed under the previous editor, not only did the Lisle Patch allow one to read the names, offenses and location as provided by the Lisle Police. The Patch website also included pictures, ages and addresses of those cited. Thats when the Patch crossed the line. I'm sure you're aware of internet catfishing. You know where one's picture can be lifted and reposted elsewhere without their knowledge or consent. While I am thankful that you do not ask for monies to remove headshots , how can you guarantee the citizens of Lisle will not become victims of these other parasite websites? Yes, these folks may have used poor judgement . But sometimes nice people do stupid things. Hopefully it's a one-time incident. As much as I believe in the First Amendment , I believe a responsible editor balances FOIA with a person right to privacy. Who wants their children , neighbors , minister or potential employer finding one's headshot on a website like this. Especially should the case be thrown out and/or the person is found innocent. If Springfield legislates this correctly I would hope that you could not post pictures and other identifying information unless the person is found guilty.

Yet, the State of Illinois proposed its own "Tollway Website of Shame"?! Those that votedRead More against the tollway website of shame cited that people could get named on the site even if someone else was running up fines with their car. And Illinois website would also be an "extortion-style" site where people have to pay to get their name removed from the website. http://www.dailyherald.com/article/20130604/news/706049727/
