Mark Boyle

Mark Boyle is running for a village trustee position on the platform of fiscal responsibility and economic development.

Boyle, a business consultant specializing in real estate site selection and market planning, said he got involved with local government more than 10 years ago as a commissioner on the Economic Development Commission and the Zoning Board of Appeals before becoming a village trustee in 2007. Boyle also represents Lisle in the DuPage Mayors and Managers Conference.

“I had the civic commitment before I was a trustee,” said Boyle, a 28-year resident of Lisle. “I have a lot of interest, knowledge and expertise that I thought would help Lisle be an even better community. I wanted to bring that to the village government.”

Running for re-election because he said the work is never done, Boyle hopes Lisle will move forward. For him, the No. 1 issue is the fiscal responsibility of the village budget, which he said is challenging to balance the revenues and expenditures.

Some cuts Boyle said the Village Board already made include reducing brush pickup from three to two times and having three fewer police squad cars. He said small cuts after looking at each line item will help balance the budget.

“My number one commitment is making sure the services provided to Lisle continues so they have the full range of services,” Boyle said. “Being an incumbent trustee for the last four years, I understand these challenges.”

Another issue for Boyle is trying to foster a healthy economic climate. He said he is a firm believer in healthy economic development creating a vibrant local economy to make a vibrant village.

He disputes the claims some residents are making about the Village Board not being transparent.

“We were proponents last year where we had citizens in this town trying to shut down the Navistar process,” he said. “That never came to the Village Board except that we were proponents of making sure that the process stays open and transparent and going forward. There is a spin going on that is not true.”

Boyle has a bachelor’s and master’s marketing degrees from Northern Illinois University and is a Ph.D. candidate in human geography at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland; he primarily uses Skype to attend class. He traveled to Scotland for two weeks in 2010. He said he has never missed a village meeting because of the trips and schedules his trips around them.

He is married to his wife, Lori, and has two children, Patrick and Sarah.

He has been a Boy Scouts' Three Fires Council member, a past committee chair for Pack 89 and a Silver Beaver Award recipient for distinguished service to youth.
