General Dissatisfaction Drives Lisle Residents to Polls

Voter turnout called "steady" throughout the day.

Did you vote today?

With an hour left until polls closed, local precincts reported steady streams of voters throughout the day.

By the afternoon, village polling places reported around 300 voters each—though DuPage AME Church, with 2190 registered voters, saw just over 400. At 3 p.m. election judges said 500 of 1268 registered voters had showed.

Polling places saw a slight boost in turnout once commuters got out of work. Village Hall, who saw just 300 voters around noon, reported a turnout of 540 at 6 p.m. with several more voters waiting for a booth to open up.

We caught up with some voters coming in and out of various poll places to find out what drove them to the booths today. While a handful cited the governor's race, the majority said it wasn't a single candidate or issue that brought them out.

"I always vote," said Charlotte Pankow, "but I'm voting today especially because I kind of object to the current government. I don't approve how things are being run."

For others, there was no clear favorite in any race.

"All the races are important. Am I wild about the candidates? No. None of the candidates are worthy to me," said Jack Heggeland.

So why come out? Resident Kathleen Behar also cited dissatisfaction with current officials, and it's that exact reason that keeps her voting.

"If I don't vote, then I'm not voicing my opinion," she said.
