DuPage County Hosts Public Hearings on 2012 Budget

The proposed budget does not include a property tax hike and is $10.3 million less than the current spending plan.

DuPage County residents may give their opinions about the proposed 2012 budget during two public hearings, which will be held in Addison and Lisle.

“It is extremely important that residents provide us with feedback on the proposed budget because it directly impacts the services they depend on,” said Paul Fichtner, finance committee chairman.

The budget hearings will be held 7 p.m. Tues., Sept. 27, at the Village of Addison, 1 Friendship Plaza, and 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4, at the Village of Lisle, 925 Burlington Ave.

On Sept. 13, DuPage County Board Chairman Dan Cronin presented his fiscal year 2012 budget. The proposed $434.7 million budget is $10.3 million less than the current spending plan and does not raise property taxes.

Cronin said the proposed budget reduces employment costs, seeks consolidation and partnerships and pursues reform and transparency. It also funds essential services such as public safety, infrastructure, human service needs, highway improvements in addition to drainage and storm water projects.
