2013 Election: Lisle Village, School, Park, Library and Township Races

Mayor Joe Broda is up for reelection in just one of more than a dozen races for open seats on local governing boards in the April 9 election. Learn more about the people who filed to run for positions as elected officials in Lisle.

The filing period for municipal elections ended Dec. 26 for the April 9 election. Here's who filed for open elected positions on local governing boards, according to DuPage County Election Commission documents.

Lisle Village Board

Open Seats:

Five candidates will be elected. The mayor, village clerk and three Lisle trustee seats are up for election this year.

Candidates:

Incumbents Joseph J. Broda and Timothy J. Seeden are both running unopposed for the Lisle mayor and village clerk positions, respectively.

Three people filed to run for three trustee seats on the Lisle Village Board: incumbent Brad Hettich with newcomers Anthony J. Carballo and Rob Getz.

Hettich was appointed in December to fill out the remainder of the term for former Trustee Joe Schmitt, who died last last year. Getz currently serves as a member on the village's Planning and Zoning Commission, while Carballo is a Lisle Park District Board commissioner, with a term set to expire in April 2015.

All five candidates listed their political affiliation as independent on county election paperwork.

Lisle District 202 School Board

Candidates:

In Lisle Community Unit School District 202, three incumbents and one newcomer have filed for the board's four open seats. Board President Pam Ahlmann joins Board Members Bob Tarasewicz and Amy Narot in running for reelection. They are joined by Eunice B. McConville, who previously ran unsuccessfully for a seat on the board in April 2011.

Naperville District 203 School Board

Candidates:

In Naperville Community Unit School District 203, 11 candidates, including two incumbents, have filed to run for the board's four open seats.

Familiar faces seeking a seat on the board include incumbents Vice President Jackie Romberg and Board Member Susan Crotty, as well as Lisle resident John "Jay" Fisher Jr., who now serves on the district's Citizens Finance Advisory Committee. Other candidates include Donna Wandke, Charles Cush, Derek Krauss, David Fish, Kristin W. Fitzgerald, Heather Rajamoney, Neil Samuels and Sabina A. Qadir. All candidates but Fisher are Naperville residents.

Lisle Park District Board

Candidates:

Three candidates—one incumbent and two newcomers—have filed to run for the three seats available in April on the Park District Board. Incumbent Commissioner Margaret M. Hough is running for reelection, while Neil Buchelt and Kari Altpeter seek to assume the seats now occupied by exiting Treasurer Janis Kanzler and Commissioner Debra Morse.

Lisle Library District Board

Candidates:

Colleen Sehy, John Gardner Huff and Maureen Rieck are running for three Lisle Library District trustee seats, while Thomas Hummel filed for one open position to serve an unexpired two-year term as library trustee.

Lisle Township

Open Seats:

Eight candidates are running for Lisle Township positions . There are contested races for township clerk and four seats on the Board of Trustees. Uncontested races include township supervisor, assessor and highway commissioner.

Candidates:

Running uncontested are Richard J. Tarulis for township supervisor, John D. Trowbridge II for assessor and Charles B. Clarke for highway commissioner. All three are incumbents who live in Naperville, and listed a party affiliation as Republican in county election paperwork. Incumbent Republican Robert J. Klaeren II of Lisle will be challenged by Democrat Alice Wilson of Bolingbrook in the contested race for township clerk.

Eight candidates—two candidates and six newcomers—are running for four spots on the Township Board of Trustees. Lisle is represented by candidates including incumbent Michael E. Riedy (R) and newcomers K. "Sharon" Connell (R), Ed Young (R) and Tony Fuscone (D). Republican incumbent Michael A. Tams lives in Naperville, while Democrats Sookyung "Soo" Chang, Kaleshia "Kay" Page and Anna Schiefelbein are all Woodridge residents.
