Stolen Lisle Dealership Van Leads to Car Chase

Lisle police pursued the vehicle through Downers Grove. Will County sheriff deputies found the van abandoned near Lemont Wednesday afternoon, but a search for the three suspects continues.

Suspects in the theft of a cargo van from a Lisle car dealership Wednesday morning are still at large, according to a news release.

Bill Kay Chevrolet employees told the police that three individuals were on the lot around 10 a.m. as prospective buyers, when they obtained the key for a gold 2012 Chevrolet Express Van and drove off the lot, according to the release. The car is valued upwards of $59,000.

Police said they were called to the dealership at 10:27 a.m. for a "suspicious incident," when they were notified that the van had been stolen.

Employees told officers that two of the three individuals inspected the van and asked for the keys, and likely secured one without the salesperson's knowledge. When the salesperson went inside the dealership, the third individual drove the van off the lot.

According to the police department's account of the pursuit: Police tried to stop the vehicle near the I-355 interchange, but the driver entered the southbound ramp. They followed the van as it left the interstate and continued their pursuit until they lost sight of it at Main and 55th streets in Downers Grove.

Officers used the stolen van's GPS features to locate it. Will County Sheriff Department deputies found it, abandoned in an unspecified area near Lemont.

Lisle and Illinois State police officers conducted a K-9 search, but did not find the suspects. Lisle police impounded the van to process for evidence.
