Snow's only silent when it falls

LA GRANGE, Feb. 9—A neighbor of Seventh Avenue School complained to police about loud truck noise at about 12:53 a.m. Police said a dump truck had been in the parking lot of the school since at least 7:15 p.m. removing snow and putting it on the soccer field to make more room for cars. Police were told at 12:53 a.m. that the truck would finish in 15 minutes and continue later.

LA GRANGE, Feb. 7—A  man told police he had parked his car in front of La Grange Village Hall and it was not there at 5:39 p.m. The vehicle was located and covered in snow, police said.

LA GRANGE, Feb. 8—A mail carrier was delivering to the back door of a business in the 4700 block of Willow Springs Road because the front door was blocked by snowdrifts. At about 10:08 a.m., the carrier said that after going to the back door, one of the occupants said, “You can’t be slamming doors; I hope you understand,” according to a police report. The business was informed its mail service is suspended by the La Grange Post Office until it clears snow from the front door near the mailbox.

GENEVA, Feb. 6—A 48-year-old woman faces driving under the influence charges after her vehicle rear-ended a St. Charles police car.

According to a police report, a squad car stopped at a red light at Randall Road and Route 38 was struck from behind. When the officer went to talk with the driver, he noticed bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and a strong odor of alcohol.

The driver was taken into custody after field sobriety tests were conducted and she told officers that she had four glasses of wine. While at the police station, she was determined to have a blood-alcohol level of 0.233, according to the report.

Gail Damon Sullivan, of 1042 St. Andrews Circle, Geneva, is charged with two counts of DUI and also was cited for a moving violation.

ELMHURST, Feb. 5—The general manager at the York Theater, 150 N. York Road, called in police who were on foot patrol at 9:14 p.m. because a man was inside screaming, cursing and pounding the seats. Police approached the man, who continued to curse and yell, then fled the theater into the City Centre. He was apprehended at Jewel. Christopher J. Dwyer, 24, 128 Clara, Elmhurst, was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and public intoxication. He was later released on I-bond.

No one wants these ruby-red slippers

DOWNERS GROVE, Feb. 4—At  7:40 p.m. a loss prevention employee at T.J. Maxx Home Goods, 7349 Lemont Rd., observed a 62-year-old woman place an umbrella and three bottles of cream and makeup in her purse while in the shoe department. The employee watched the woman use a hand-held scraper to remove the sensor tag on a pair of shoes and place the shoes in her purse. But the woman cut her finger while trying to remove the tag on another pair of shoes, bleeding on them and damaging them. Police said she then paid for a jacket and was stopped by the employee outside the store. Emilie Fabian-Gretsch, of Crestwood, was charged with retail theft and damaging items valued at $117.
