UPDATED: Pedestrian Killed Near Naperville Metra Station

Trains were running again after the incident, which occurred at about 5:23 p.m.

A man was struck and killed Friday as a train was making its way into the Naperville station.

The accident occurred at about 5:23 p.m. just east of the Naperville station, said Meg Reile, a spokesperson for Metra.

A man who was about 500 feet east of the Loomis Street pedestrian crossing walked in front of the approaching westbound train, according to a news release from the Naperville Police Department issued at 7:26 p.m. The train was unable to stop and struck the man.

Some outbound trains were allowed to run around the incident, but by about 6:20 the train involved in the incident was moved from the scene, Reile said. Delays of up to an hour were expected for some outbound trains.

The was the first on the scene of the accident, Reile said. Police said they would not identify the man pending positive identifications and notifications.

According to the North Central College website, the man identified as the victim is former professor Andy Adams.
