News Nearby: Bail Set at $750,000 for Plainfield Man Charged in Fatal Motorcycle Accident

A DuPage County judge has set bail at $750,000 for a Plainfield man charged with aggravated reckless driving in Naperville after his car crashed into a motorcycle, killing a Lombard man Wednesday.

Michael J. Moreno, 31, of the 11700 block of Presley Circle in Plainfield, is being held on $750,000 bail and charged with aggravated reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident involving the death of another, possession of cannabis and obstructing a peace officer, DuPage County State's Attorney Robert B. Berlin said in a news release.

Naperville Police issued a news release early Thursday morning and said Moreno was driving under the influence of marijuana.

Earlier: 

Moreno was allegedly involved in a "road rage" incident after chasing a 16-year-old Naperville girl driving a 2006 Honda. Moreno's Infinity M45 was headed westbound on Ogden Avenue when he turned left on River Road and struck a motorcycle driven by Gerald W. Puglise, 63, of Lombard, at approximately 5:03 p.m. Wednesday. Puglise died at the scene of the accident, police said.

Moreno also allegedly fled the scene of the accident, but Naperville Police Department apprehended him shortly after, according to the Naperville Police.

After the accident, Moreno was taken to a hospital for minor injuries where he tested positive for marijuana, the news release said. 

"Every year, thousands of lives are needlessly lost to DUI related crashes,” Berlin said in a news release. “Illegal drugs and alcohol can impair your ability to operate a motor vehicle. The motoring public has to learn that if you have been drinking or have any amount of illegal drugs in your system you should not get behind the wheel of your car. I would like to thank the for their quick apprehension of Mr. Moreno. I would also like to thank Assistant State’s Attorney Bethany Jackson for her extended efforts on this case.”

Judge Elizabeth Sexton set Moreno's bond Thursday at $750,000, with Moreno having to post 10 percent of that amount to be released. He is scheduled for another court appearance on June 25 in front of Judge George Bakalis.
