Lisle Police Issue 33 Citations During 'Click It or Ticket' Campaign

All but 10 of the citations were for failure to wear a safety belt during an 11-day enforcement campaign.

Lisle police issued 33 citations during an 11-day seatbelt enforcement campaign in May, officials said.

Officers conducted five special details from May 14 to May 25 as part of the Illinois Department of Transportation’s Memorial Day “Click it or Ticket” campaign, according to a press release. In all, 23 of the 33 citations issued were for failure to wear a seatbelt when required. Here are the full results:

  • 23 seat belt citations
  • 7 drug arrests
  • 5 speeding citations
  • 4 uninsured motorists citations
  • 1 child safety seat citation

Lisle police were one of the 500-plus local law enforcement agencies across the state hoping to save more lives by strongly enforcing seat belt laws.

Provisional numbers show that there were six fatalities and almost 600 injuries on Illinois roadways during the 2012 Memorial Day weekend. Three of those fatalities were alcohol-related, according to buckleupillinois.org.

Each driver and front-seat passenger of a motor vehicle operated on a street or highway in Illinois shall wear a properly fastened safety belt, according to the Illinois Vehicle Code.
