Lisle Man Indicted in High School Attack

Prosecutors allege Laron Leonard grabbed a teacher by throat.

A grand jury has indicted a Lisle man on charges he grabbed the neck of a Naperville North High School teacher who tried to stop a physical altercation, court records show.

Laron Leonard, 18, of Lisle, was indicted this week on four counts of aggravated battery, and single counts of criminal trespass to state-supported land and witness harassment. He has been held in DuPage County Jail since his arrest in the early May incident.

Court documents indicate Leonard was at the school, despite being previously told to stay away, on May 3 when he punched and kicked another male. An unidentified teacher attempted to intervene, but was grabbed by the throat.
Leonard is scheduled to be arraigned on the charges on June 6.

At the time of the high school incident, Leonard was on probation for a burglary conviction related to a November break in at a Shabbona Lane residence. Leonard and another man were accused of choking a resident before taking money and electronics.

Leonard pleaded guilty to burglary in February and was sentenced to six months in jail, with credit for nearly half of that time, and two years of probation. It's not clear when Leonard was released, but records show Lisle police arrested him in April on a misdemeanor battery charge accusing him kicking and punching a man.

This week, prosecutors filed paperwork seeking to revoke Leonard's probation - which could lead to him being resentenced in the burglary case - because of the two new cases.
