Former Carnival Worker Sentenced a Second Time in St. Charles Murder

A 63-year-old former carnival worker who won an appeal for a new trial was sentenced a second time Wednesday for the 2008 murder of a St. Charles man at a West Main Street home, according to the Chicago Tribune.

After being convicted again of first-degree murder following his appeal, Arthur Manning was sentenced to 29 years in prison in a Kane County courtroom, which is four years less than his original sentence, according to the article.

Manning is accused of stabbing Naromi Mannery on Sept. 21, 2008, after a fight escalated at a home in the 900 block of East Main St. where Manning lived with other carnival workers and where they had been drinking that night with Mannery, according to the Daily Herald.

Prosecutors said Manning became angry with Mannery after he refused to leave the home, which was meant only for carnival workers and was owned by Windy City Amusements, and "lost it" after Mannery called him a racial slur, according to the article. Mannery was stabbed in the chest, back and arm.
