Roundtable hosted by Benedictine's CVDL explores 'resonant leadership'

Lisle, Illinois ~ Great leaders talk of strategy and competition, but they accomplish these through a deep emotional connection with others called resonance. Their own emotional intelligence allows them to create and nurture relationships that sustain productivity and innovation and drive them toward strategic goals.

Richard Boyatzis, Ph.D., a globally recognized expert in the field of organizational change and a pioneer in emotional intelligence, will address the questions of leadership and emotional connection at a Senior Executive Roundtable, “Resonant Leadership: Inspiring Others Through Emotional Intelligence,” from 2:00-5:30 p.m. on Friday, November 8 at the Hyatt Lodge at McDonald’s Campus in Oak Brook.

The event is sponsored by the Center for Values-Driven Leadership (CVDL) at Benedictine University.

Boyatzis is a professor in the organizational behavior, psychology and cognitive science departments of Case Western Reserve University, and the author of more than 150 articles on leadership, emotional intelligence, competency development, coaching and management education.

The roundtable will draw from decades of his research into emotional intelligence and seek to address questions such as: What is a great leader and how do they sustain effectiveness? What does resonant leadership look like in an organizational context? How do leaders sustain emotional connections in the midst of stress and change?

“Much of the best leadership research in the last few decades centers around the role of emotional intelligence in the workplace,” said Jim Ludema, Ph.D., director of the CVDL. “Strategies and systems are important, but they don’t influence others to drive change or reach aggressive goals. Emotional intelligence does.”

The Senior Executive Roundtables are an ongoing series sponsored by the CVDL and designed to inform and inspire senior executives who are committed to leading at the intersection of ethics, sustainability and business results. These events bring together senior executives – presidents, CEOs, C-level executives and others – who are committed to strategic, values-driven leadership.

The CVDL at Benedictine University offers research, education and outreach opportunities to help business leaders forge new paths to profitability. Values-driven companies consistently outperform their industry peers and create short-term and long-term value for their stakeholders – customers, employees, investors, communities and the natural environment.

The roundtable is made possible through the partnership of Environmental Systems Design Inc. (ESD) of Chicago, a consulting-engineering company offering value to building owners and users by creating healthy and productive environments and designing facilities that are more cost effective, flexible, reliable and sustainable.

Michael Kuppinger, an executive vice president with ESD, is also a doctoral student with the CVDL’s Ph.D./D.B.A. in Values-Driven Leadership program.

“We are grateful for the partnership of ESD, and know that their support represents their commitment to strategic leadership that is positive and people-focused,” said Amber Johnson, corporate relations advisor with the CVDL.

Registration is $150 per person. Group discounts are available. For more information, go to www.cvdl.org/roundtable.
