Roskam Votes to Establish House Select Committee on Benghazi
Today, Congressman Peter Roskam (IL-06) released the following statement on House passage of a resolution to establish a Select Committee on Benghazi.
“For nearly two years, Congress and the American people have sought the truth regarding the terror attack on our Special Mission in Benghazi that resulted in the tragic deaths of four brave Americans. We have learned a great deal through the extensive work of standing committees that have aggressively investigated the attack, but the Obama administration continues to obstruct congressional inquiries by withholding key information and distorting the facts. Too many questions remain unanswered regarding the situation on the ground before, during, and after the event, as well as the extent of the Administration’s efforts to conceal the truth from public eye. A Select Committee, under the serious and thoughtful leadership of Chairman Trey Gowdy, is a grave but necessary step in this search for answers. I am confident this committee will work to gather all of the facts so that the American people can draw their own conclusions. We have a responsibility to the American people and especially to the families of the victims of the attack to ensure the such a tragic incident never happens again.”
